ETCM announces 2009 performance
Nissan and its local distributor Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn. Bhd. has announced what they both agree to be an ‘outstanding year’ in terms of sales performance with the release of the MAA figures for 2009.
Although MAA reported a 2% shrinkage in 2009’s total industry volume (TIV) compared to that of 2008, Nissan sales bucked that trend to register an overall 5% increase, selling 29,693 cars in 2009 compared to 28,313 in 2008.
Playing a crucial role to drive this remarkable upward trend was the Nissan Grand Livina MPV, which, based on MAA’s figures, usurped the Toyota Avanza as the top-selling non-national 3-row MPV (petrol) of 2009, commanding a 38% segment market share.
Aside from the Grand Livina, the Nissan Urvan has also emerged as the best seller in the window van (diesel) segment for 2009 with a market share of 30%.
“The increased market share and numerous awards won by Nissan’s range of new models in Malaysia signify the growing confidence of consumers in our products, market acceptance, and recognition of the excellent value proposition that our products offer,“ said ETCM’s Executive Director, Dato’ Dr Ang Bon Beng, who was recently named as Automotive Man of the Year by The New Straits Times/Maybank Car of the Year 2009.
