No recall for Toyota Camry in Malaysia
Things seem to be going from bad to worse for Toyota these days. There was the floor mat recall, then the stuck accelerator pedal recall, and recently the Prius ABS software glitch recall.
While we feel that the media reaction to Toyota’s woes is somewhat overblown, incidents like these could hardly be beneficial for a company whose reputation is built on the bulletproof reliability of their cars.
The financial cost to rectify these defects certainly isn’t going to be cheap, but the bigger concern is all the bad press currently surrounding the company. Today, things went from bad to worse, as a fourth separate recall was issued to 7,300 owners of the 2010 Toyota Camry in the US.
Cause for concern is the power steering hose, which may be in contact with a brake fluid tube. Constant contact between these two components could potentially lead to a leak in the brake fluid tube, and we all know how dangerous that can be.
Fortunately for us here in Malaysia, our Toyota Camry sources components from different suppliers, and have different mechanical architectures (LHD vs RHD) than their US counterparts. To that effect, UMW Toyota Motor has swiftly moved to issue a statement saying that all Toyota Camry models sold by them are not affected by this voluntary recall exercise.
Toyota models in Malaysia are also not affected by the earlier floor mat and accelerator pedal recalls. In our shores, only the 60 units of the third generation Toyota Prius are affected by the recent spate of recalls thus far due to the ABS software glitch.
