Honda Opens (yes, another!) 3S Centre in Sibu.

In spite of the supposed downturn in the economy, my inbox continues to be flooded by an unbelievable amount of good news from Honda Malaysia’s PR. Over the last half a year, they have launched the new City, the Stream RSZ and the facelifted version of the highly acclaimed eighth-gen Civic.

Even more amazingly, these new models are then quickly followed by blockbusting sales figures. In January, they shifted 3,815 cars out of their showrooms, their highest ever total then. This figure swelled to 3,905 by March, which sees Honda now accounting for 10% of the total industry volume. Amazing growth achieved in the face of considerable shrinkage in the car market locally and worldwide.

As a matter of fact, things are going so well for them, that they’re opening one new 3S (Sales, Service & Spare parts) centre after another. One was opened in Johor Bahru by Wang Loo Motors in February 2009, and now Jimisar Motors of Sibu, Sarawak, has joined the growing list being Honda Malaysia’s fifth 3S centre in East Malaysia, part of a huge network of 54 3S centres throughout the country.

The new showroom was jointly launched by Honda Malaysia’s MD & CEO, Mr Toru Takahashi, and Deputy Minister of Malaysia International Trade and Industry (MITI), Dato’ Jacob Dungau Sagan. Also present at the ceremony was Jimisar Motor’s Managing Director Dato’ Ismail Salleh.

At the launch, Takahashi-san reflected on the long way which Honda has come since setting up shop in Sarawak back in 2001, “When Honda first established in 2001, we only sold 4 units (in Sarawak) of cars back then. Today, we have grown leaps and bounds ever since. As of April 2009, Honda has sold close to 4,000 units in Sarawak. And we attribute the success to our dedicated dealers and supportive customers here.”

The impressive growth of Honda, here in Malaysia at least, continues apace with no signs of stopping, even in the face of the supposed economic crisis. Indeed, we have been promised that a new showroom is scheduled for opening in Penang some time soon. Astonishing!
