Car Scrapping: Germany set to extend scheme

The fantastic success of the scheme, which boosted February car sales by 21 per cent has convinced the German Government to extend it.

Keep in mind that the scrapping scheme took effect on Feb 20. Within eight days sales shot up like a rocket to result in the 21 per cent boost. WOW

Malaysia also has a similar scheme in place but it is applicable only when you purchase either a brand new Proton or Perodua and so far we do not have any statistics on the success of the scheme but Proton and Perodua is certainly not complaining.

Scrapping is now seen as a sales booster during weak economic times but in Japan it is a national policy put in place to ensure steady growth of the auto industry and also to rid their roads of dirty, poluting, unsafe and inefficient older cars.

  1. I totally agree that scrapping policy should be enhanced in Malaysia and be extended beyond purchase of national cars alone. It should keep our roads safer and cleaner with more efficient new cars and motorbikes. The older vehicles are causing alot of economic costs to Malaysia. How much of the subsidised fuel could have been saved only if the vehicles are newer and more efficient?
