NAZA Launches SUTERA Minicars

by -

Kuala Lumpur, Saturday 22 April 2006 ?Naza Corporation Sdn Bhd, a new entity in the Naza Group of companies, today launched the all-new Naza Sutera. Powered by a 1.1 litre DOHC engine that develops a maximum power of 65PS at 5,700 rpm, and peak torque of 88Nm at between 3,000 and 3,600 rpm, the Sutera is packed with goodies that make it a great value for money package. Standard equipment includes air conditioning, power steering, and power electric front windows. This exciting new player should give the likes of the Kelisa, Kenari and Kancil a run for their money. Other casualties expected would be the Proton Savvy, if the mooted price of ‘under RM40k?stays long enough. Add to this a 3-year warranty, and it gets even better.

I have just come from the press preview, and there is an embargo on this story until 5.00 pm Saturday 22nd April; I will not be around to hear the exact price announcement, which is why this story is timed to go on-line at exactly 5.01 pm.

The car looks exciting enough, and I expect that it would appeal to the young. Unfortunately, at the time of launch, the two variants, GS, and GSi models are available only in manual transmission form. The good news is that it is a 5-speed manual, so that’s not so bad. An auto would be nice; having said that, I figure it won’t be long before an auto version follows.

The handling department is said to have been tweaked by Lotus Engineering; Front suspension is independent Macpherson struts with a stabilizer bar, while the rear is a beam axle. Shockers are gas-filled, and handling and ride are claimed to be good.

Brakes are discs in front and drums at the rear. What is interesting is that the car comes with dual front airbags, power steering, power door locks, rear wipers, and a 6-speaker audio system. In addition, the rear seats split and fold for added versatility. The GSi model has additional reverse parking sensor, silver interior finishing and a muffler finisher. Both models are shod with 14-inch alloy wheels and 165/55R14 tyres.

The cars are on display at 34 sales outlets throughout the country starting today. If the pics I have posted look good, go check it out for yourself. I like the yellow one.
