5Th Seoul Motor Show is the Biggest Show Ever held in Korea
The 5th Seoul Motorshow is the biggest ever motorshow to be staged in Seoul. No less than 18 new models were launched at the motor show itself. In addition, many concept cars were shown. AW was the invited guest of Hicomobil Sdn Bhd, the local importers and distributors of the Chevrolet brand, some models aof which are from the Daewoo stable.
Our visit included a tour of the GM Daewoo manufacturing plant, and we were indeed impressed by the high standards and the advanced state of the Korean automotive industry.
It appears that there has been a quantum leap of sorts; the Korean automotive industry, amde up of the big three, GM Daewoo, Kia and Hyundai, has come of age. Not only are they responsible for selling more than 950,000 cars a year in the domestic market, leaving only 5 percent of the domestic market for the foreign makes, they export the majority of their production worldwide.
Daewoo has turned itself around after suffering huge losses, and the infusion of GM into the company has been hugely responsible for the growth of the company into one that makes more than a million vehicles a year, and exports more than 95 percent of its production to morethan 150 countries. Such is the power of global marketing, global sourcing, and shared resources.
