Clarification on New Kembara DVVT Price

Clarification on New Kembara DVVT Price

by -

When the new Perodua Kembara DVVT was launched last week, the company’s MD had said that it would be sold at ‘the old price’ for the first month. This special price is being offered because he had promised Malaysians that there would be no more price increases in the short-term. Unfortunately, the advanced new technology, especially in the DVVT engine, is costly and the new model costs about RM1,600 more to make.

“I had a tough discussion with the factory and as a compromise, we can sell the new model at no increase from the old one for the first month,” he said during the press preview. “After that, the new price which is around RM1,000 higher will be applied.”

However, when people visited some Perodua showrooms around the country, they were informed that there was ‘no such thing’ as the old price being applicable for the new model. It seemed that there was confusion at some places and this was reported by a number of people in our widely-read forum.

AUTOWORLD.COM.MY contacted Perodua this morning and received an official reply which provides the following clarification and points on the matter:

1. The new Kembara DVVT price list dated 6/6/2003 shows the new prices which are about RM1,000 higher than the old model.

2. For the period 6/6/2003 till 6/7/2003, those who pay the booking fee for a new Kembara DVVT will get a RM1,000 discount for all versions.

3. This discount is actually higher than the difference in the price between the old and new models. As an example, the difference between the old price and new price of the cheapest Kembara version (EX with non-metallic paint) is RM858 while for the top version (EZ with 2-tone finish), it is RM999. Therefore, with the discount applied, the buyer of a Kembara DVVT EX could actually be getting the new model at a price RM142 cheaper than the equivalent old one.

4. The special discount will be offered during the period stated if a booking fee is paid and all necessary purchase procedures are completed. The new vehicle will also have to be registered within 1 month from July 6 2003. This means that a customer cannot book a vehicle and want to take delivery in December 2003 as such an arrangement will not enjoy the discount. Should Perodua not be able to deliver the vehicle in time, then the customer will still enjoy the discount but must take delivery of it the moment his or her unit is available.

5. The offer is also available in East Malaysia.

6. A discount of RM2,000 – RM3,200 is available for the OLD model (without DVVT), the actual amount depending on the version chosen.

Perodua would like to apologise to customers for the confusion on this matter and if further clarification is needed, you can contact the Deputy GM of Marketing Services, Ooi Joo Hong at ooi@perodua.com.my.
