50 Satria GTI Owners Drive to Phuket
It’s that time of the year when people take a holiday break and escape the city’s daily jams which make motoring less pleasurable. For a group of 50 Proton Satria GTI owners and their families, the escape goes all the way across the northern border to Phuket, Thailand.
The group left this morning on the Continental Satria GTI Club Getaway – Sawadee Phuket event which was flagged off from the Sime Darby Tyre Group’s head office in Petaling Jaya, Selangor. Continental Tyres, a brand marketed by the Sime Darby Tyre Group, is the main sponsor of the event and provided the participants with breakfast before they were flagged off and escorted by police all the way to the border.
The event has been professionally organised by the club with emphasis on driving safety. It will be for 6 days and 5 nights and besides Phuket, the convoy will also visit the Sime Tyres factory in Alor Setar, Kedah, as well as make a donation to an establishment in the state.
“Our aim on this event is to promote disciplined, responsible and safe driving in the spirit of One Malaysia, as well as fostering goodwill with the people of Thailand and helping to boost inbound tourism,” said a spokesman for the Satria GTI Club.
The flag-off was attended by Proton CEO Tengku Tan Sri Dr Mahaleel Tengku Ariff and Proton Edar CEO, Dato’ Maruan Mohd Said. Also present was Choong Kee Seng, the Sales Director of the Sime Darby Tyre Group as well as representatives of co-sponsors of the event.
