EON Introduces the TrailWagon

No, it’s not the long-awaited Proton mini-SUV which was supposed to have been launched a year ago. That’s what we thought when the invitation to attend the launch was received… and then someone noticed that it did not say Proton TrailWagon but EON TrailWagon. Meaning it was not necessarily a new car model.

Then it occurred to us that EON has had a trailer on display in its head office showroom and true enough, that has now come to be known as the TrailWagon.

Designed and developed by EON, and now commercialised by the company, the TrailWagon is a small trailer which can be attached to any car with an engine size 1.5 litres or more (and equipped with a suitable tow hook). The design is JPJ-approved and is treated as a separate vehicle for road use. Therefore it needs to be registered and there will be different rates for private use and commercial use.

“The TrailWagon can ve used for private and commercial applications – from transporting golf bags, excess baggage, ‘balik kampung barang’, jet-skis, go-karts and durians… to engineering or building materials and even pasar malam goods,” said Datuk Adzmi Wahab, Managing Director of EON, during the official launch of the TrailWagon by the Prime Minister at Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur this morning.

“Two hundred units are available for immediate purchase through any EON sales outlet nationwide and we expect that there will be many buyers,” added Datuk Adzmi enthusiastically.

Various configurations are available for the Trailwagon, starting with a basic unit which has just the load bed on two wheels. This costs RM8,301.65 for private use and RM8,424.82 for commercial use. Other configurations, which cost more, have additional features such as railings, a canopy, hard cover and the most expensive is for pasar malam traders which has a frame and extendable canopy. The latter is priced at RM13,356.40 for commercial purposes.

TrailWagons purchased for commercial use are equipped with the mandatory load limit stickers. All units come with standard speed limit stickers – 80 km/h in urban areas, 90 km/h on highways – safety reflector, towing hitch, electrical kit and brake system.

According to a senior manager in EON, it will be possible for buyers to obtain financing for the TrailWagon through EON Finance (provided they are eligible).
