The Sepang International circuit has recently launched a new 7-round championship series called the Malaysian Super Series. This series will feature both car and motorcycle events, and some of the rounds will also be support races for the Sepang circuits main events including the forthcoming Japan GT Championship in June, and the Malaysian Grand Prix in October.
The first round of this Malaysian Super Series kicks off on May 25th and 26th, just barely a week away. Although the official launch of the series was only a couple of weeks away from the first event, the organizers, SIC Sdn. Bhd., are confident that there will be sufficient entries for the first round. “ Our aim in Sepang International Circuit is to make the Malaysian Super Series as the premier racing series in Malaysia,” says Tan Sri Basir Ismail, Chairman of SIC Sdn. Bhd.. “ The introduction of the Malaysian Super Series is in line with the government’s aspiration in the establishment of Sepang Circuit to be the catalyst for the overall development of motorsports in Malaysia,” he said at the launch in the Sepang circuit.
Through the local events like the Malaysian Super Series and the current Merdeka Millennium Endurance race, local drivers can develop their skills and catch the eyes of sponsors and open opportunities to break into bigger events.
All the seven rounds shall be held on the Sepang International Circuit itself, but except for those events that are to be held as support races for the Japan GT Cars and the Malaysian Grand Prix, the races shall be held on the South Circuit. The south circuit is in actuality a shortened version of the F1 circuit. Running a shorter circuit will provide better spectator viewing opportunities, as most of the 2.69 kilometer track shall be visible from the grandstands.
Fans wishing to see the first round this weekend can purchase tickets priced at RM50.00 for the main grandstand and RM30.00 for the covered Hillstand C for a 2 day package. Tickets for entry to the open Hillstand C1 and C3 are on offer at RM20.00 for the two days. Ticket Hotline +603-8526 2222
