Honda Civic Gets Dual Front Airbags

Responding to customer demand and also to bring the Civic’s safety features to a comparable level as that of rivals like the Toyota Corolla and Nissan Sentra, DRB-Oriental-Honda (DOH) today announced the addition of a third version of the locally-assembled model — the Civic VTi (SRS) — which has dual front airbag supplementary restraints systems (SRS).

The new Civic VTi (SRS), which also has ABS as standard, is priced at RM119,764.54, including insurance and road tax (for private registration) and comes with alloy wheels, reverse sensors, wood centre panel and other accessories. For those who feel they do not want the airbags, the Civic VTi with similar mechanical specifications and ABS, is also available for RM3,791 less, while the Civic EX-i is priced at RM109,817 (no ABS).

“The Honda Civic is an ultimate commuting and family vehicle. As such, its safety requirement is a priority to Honda. This is why the Honda Civic VTi (SRS) is equipped with a combination of highly responsive handling and braking systems with market leading levels of passive safety. We have no doubt that the Honda Civic VTi (SRS) will be a market leader in advanced safety technology,” said Mitsuru Ozaki, Managing Director/CEO of DOH.

Both airbags are full-sized types with the one for the driver stored in the steering wheel centre boss and the one for the front passenger under a flap on top of the dashboard. As with all SRS airbags, deployment only occurs during frontal impacts above a specific collision speed; front airbags do not deploy during rear or side impacts nor during roll-overs. To enhance the restraint, the Civic’s seatbelt system includes pre-tensioners which automatically tighten the seatbelts during an impact.

All the latest Civics assembled locally also have Honda’s ‘G-Con’ (G-Force Control) Technology which is designed to control the various g-forces generated during a collision. G-Con ensures that the enormous and potentially injury-causing forces do not reach the occupants, thus ensuring greater survivability during an accident.

With the festive season starting, DOH is offering attractive extras with the purchase of any Honda model distributed by the company. Customers who make purchases on or before December 20th 2001 will be entitled to one of the following items: a) a Canon Powershot digital camera; b) Jaya Jusco vouchers worth RM1,000; c) tickets for two persons to the 2002 F1 race at Sepang in March next year; or d) V-Kool tinting film on all window glass.

All cars booked during this promotion period will also come with free maintenance, parts and labour (according to Honda’s recommended service schedule) for the first two years or 40,000 kms, whichever comes first. But even if you don’t end up ordering a Honda, just visiting any authorised Honda dealer’s showroom during the promotion period to check out one of the models will get you a free welcome gift (while stocks last).
