PREVIEW – Nissan’s Idea for the Future

    Nissan’s displays at the coming Tokyo Motorshow will show that the company has lost none of its creativity in spite of its massive financial troubles just a few years ago. With its Revival Plan moving along well, the company will be showing Nissan’s creative and distinctive way of making motor vehicles and also its corporate posture of boldly yet thoughtfully undertaking challenges are well entrenched.

    All of the concept cars to be exhibited at the Tokyo Motor Show will convey characteristic and powerful messages on the important themes of the company’ unique way of making motor vehicles, such as the distinctive and attractive “designs,” the “driving pleasure” that can be termed the company’s heritage, and “telematics,” the information technology for supporting pleasant and safe lifestyle concepts involving automobiles.

    Ideo is one of the concept cars which has realized interactive communication in pursuit of an ideal network vehicle. The ideo features a stable-looking form with the four tyres positioned as closely as possible to the four corners, and an advanced exterior design incorporating Japanese architectural design elements, that give the impression of a paper-covered lantern.

    As its ‘name’ suggests, the ‘mm’ is a concept car that proposes a new standard for compact cars. It strikes a pleasing balance of roundness and sharpness, and the spacious interior. The mm adopts Nissan’s newly developed, compact and lightweight E-4WD system that provides 4WD capability only when it is needed.

    Z-Car lovers already know that a totally new Z is coming but for now, it is still designated as a ‘concept car’ that blends Nissan’s sportscar tradition with cutting-edge technologies and a fresh design. It has the new 3.5-liter VQ35DE engine that is claimed to deliver the most powerful driving performance ever in the history of Z cars.

    Moco gives a clue to what could be Nissan’s first mini-vehicle. An all-aluminium, DOHC 660-cc engine powers the Moco. For those who need more space, there’s the Kino which is a compact minivan designed for younger families and providing a host of “living-room comforts.” The Kino, which seats six people in three-row seats, is comparable to a vehicle with two-row seats in overall length and provides a sufficient interior height.

    For the new generation of young consumers, Nissan has a concept car called ‘Nails’. Described as having ‘street pickup styling’, the Nails features the unique construction placing an A-shaped cabin frame on the low floor that run from the cabin along the length of the bed. On a more rugged note, there is also the Crossbow, claimed to be the “king of the off-roaders”. The exterior design makes effective use of the Crossbow’s awesome dimensions of an overall length of 4860 mm, an overall width of 1965 mm, and an overall height of 1850mm in a straightforward expression of power, while the key them of the interior is luxury.
