Wow, the new Ford Ranger and Mazda BT50 finally revealed. Ford Ranger 2011 is scheduled to start production in Rayong, Thailand next year available for sale in mid year. I hope sooner as I can't wait to try out the new ride. It'll be using entirely new full size frame platform that is wider for real. Since Ford+Mazda are good in producing diesel powered engine, this new ride should be superior.

Taken from WCF:
Under the hood, three new engines are available. The 2.2-liter Duratorq TDCi I4 produces 110 kW (150 PS / 148 hp) and 375 Nm (277 lb-ft) of torque. If that isn't powerful enough, you can order the 3.2-liter Duratorq TDCi I5 which churns out 147 kW (200 PS / 197 hp) and 470 Nm (347 lb-ft) of torque. Lastly, customers choose a 122 kW (166 PS / 164 hp) 2.5-liter Duratec I4 petrol which can be configured for E100 flex-fuel capability as well as CNG and LPG.

Transmission choices include the 6R80 six-speed automatic (with Sport and Normal modes), the MT82 six-speed manual, and the MT75 five-speed manual.

Four-wheel drive models have an electronically controlled transfer case that allows drivers to shift from 4x2 to 4x4 as needed. Furthermore, an electric locking differential / limited slip differential is optional.

2.2L diesel engine could reduce road tax further, maybe at RM800? Current 2.5L at RM1000+. Someone please help me to post photos here since I can't upload photos, don't know why.

Thanks for this information. If this is true, I will be the first to order one even without test driving. My mouth watered when I read about it and saw the pictures. Mid 2011 seems a long way to go.

Hi karboo,

Thanks for posting the photos. At least those who have not seen the released photos, they can get a glance here. Further details taken from Aussie website >> http://www.caradvice...er-t6-unveiled/

---------------------------------------------------------

Like Mazda’s BT-50, which shares the same platform as new Ranger, this latest generation is a larger vehicle with a longer wheelbase and wider track than the previous models. Visually, Ranger makes a strong statement, but while its workhorse capabilities has been significantly upgraded, so to, has its ability to perform as the family chariot on weekends.

There’s plenty of grunt under the bonnet too with three new powertrains on offer. If you have a need use all of the vehicle’s payload capacity of up to 1500 kilograms, then you might want go with the 3.2-litre Ford Duratorq TDI5 unit, which develops a highly commendable 147kW and a stomping 470 Nm of torque.

There’s a smaller 2.2-litre diesel, the TDCi I4, which punches out 110 kW and 375 Nm, or buyers can choose the 2.5-litre Ford Duratec I4 petrol engine with 122 kW, but has the advantage of being able to run E100 flexi fuel or can be retrofitted to run on CNG or LPG for greater economy.

Ford’s new 6R80 six-speed auto box will be available of some 4×2 and 4×4 Ranger models and is said to deliver almost seamless shifts and in keeping with Ranger’s car-like driveability.

Alternative transmissions for Ranger will include the MT86 six-speed manual, while the 2.5-litre comes standard with Ford’s MT75 five-speed manual.

Switching from 4Ă—2 to 4Ă—4 on new Ranger will be as easy as moving a switch on the console, and can be activated at any time, as can a low-range gearing.

“Car-like” is a common theme throughout the press release on Ford’s new Ranger and the newly designed chassis promises, “Car-like comfort, reduced steering effort, more precise handling and better on-road stability.”

Brake fade or stopping power shouldn’t be an issue either, as new Ranger boasts the largest brakes in the class with 302-by-32 mm and twin-pots up front while rear brakes get a larger drum set up.

There’s a full compliment of passive and active safety systems available too including ABS, Emergency Brake Assist, and ESP with Traction Control, Yaw Control and Roll Over Mitigation.

I guess not many pickup lovers sign up as forumners in AW. So far you are the only one who replied. I hope SD Ford will strike when the iron is hot especially when Ford EU and US team up to build global cars mixing tech from each other in developing superior tech with added reliability and durability. New Ford Ranger YES!!!

I have read quite a few reviews, but none takes about its tyre size. Do you have any idea?

I am still waiting eagerly for the commercial production to start. Two moths ago when I called a Ford dealer, I was told that details would only come in by May.

Yesterday, a friend asked again when I was going to change my car. Perhaps my present ride is really in bad shape already.

Whatever new cars that we are expecting, the tips is there when they start production in Thailand. Thailand is ASEAN hub nowadays. Can't wait for the new Ranger and BT50. Need to try them kawkaw check which is better. Tough truck design or car like design. Maybe they'll be displayed in Bangkok motorshow.
