How fair to compare the FWD with RWD handling department ?....give me the spare Rm20K i will quarantee the S40 handling will improved with much better than 3 series.............

Well ... if you put in money and effort, any car (or maybe not all, not my kelisa anyway) can be upgraded or modified to become better than the BMW.

And FWD if the design is good can be better than RWD. I read the other day a test drive in UK - Nissan GTR vs Porsche .. the Nissan actually better than the Porcshe in terms of handling.

What I meant was by original design alone and in stock form from factory and showroom, the BMW handling is great already as is.

Though really looking at your list, I seriously believe that you can improve the S40 to be better than the 3 series. With Rm20k (minus RM1000 fine) of course ...

with rm20K, you can get

1) KW variant 2 or 3 coilover ( so far the best performance hi-lo, soft hard absorber +spring for volvo) around rm5000
2) Full set of IPD strut tower bar, lower arm bar, bigger diameter antil roll bar ( will improved s40 high speed handling & road holding ) around rm2500
3) Full set mazda3/focus adjustable toe & camber kits ( good for s40 as well but depend which year model ) around rm1500
4) bigger, lighten and wider offset rim from euro or US (brand subject your liking )around rm5000
5) UPT tires from japan or euro ( brand subject your driving style ) around rm4000
6) PU bushes all the undercarriege arms and bars ( rm1000)
7) spare the rm1000 for summons after all you will non stop driving your s40 fast.....and tapau all the 3 series at high speed corner. hehehehe

if you give extra rm50K to me then you will get 370bhp out from your s40 2.4i...want to try ?

if put that 20K to 3 series suspension how ?

that depend on which model's of 3 series that you talking about..if entry models like 318 or 320 then forget about it as those are under power so with upgrade suspension is wasted $, if you are refer to 325 or 328 (193-197bhp) then with this Rm20K suspension upgrade will make those become real ultra driver machine that the handling will be much better to pair with the power...but again volvo s40 2.4i are also entry level model so better compare apple to apple with those and s40T5 (217bhp ) interm of power set up but since S40T5 are not available locally then we compare 330 (231bhp)with V50T5 (220bhp)with both upgrade the suspension then i will say both have equal chances to be come winner...

My recent experience was:

1. Grinding sound from the belt area.

This happened on the first day of CNY when I was at hometown in Johor, the sound came after the engines heats up and will stay there until you off the engine. You can even hear it while driving but the sound is faint but still irritating. It is loud if you are outside the car.
It sound like it was one of the bearings connecting to the belt was not smooth. Awaiting diagnosis from FA.

2. Emission lights on for the past few days.

I have had this error light before, last time it requires me to upgrade a software at a price ( i think around 200+) to enable the new software to tune the engine. Now have to wait for another round of diagnosis from FA

For your information, my S40 2.4i has clocked almost 120,000km, so it is now in FA for the major service like timing belt and other major operations. This will cost at least RM3000+ Ouch!

Initial checking from FA , beside the 120k km service, I will need to replace my front brake disks (both ard RM1k+) and front brake pads (RM450+/pair) , also the battery (RM551).

This will be the biggest price I am paying for a service. I can feel it is gonna cost me around RM6k!

Be aware S40 owners. Feeling the pinch after warranty is over sad.gif

Will update you guys with more details.

that's why i'm starting to look for independent workshop, will be visiting Wyn @ USJ7.
the battery side, mine also recently kaput, will be visiting PH Auto later (cuti CNY 1 week), which should be much cheaper. but DIY is okay for me biggrin.gif
(as both items recommended by andrewlim8)
