Dear S40 2.4i owners,
I thought I should share my recent experience with you guys.
On my way back home from work last week, I heard metal-to-metal grinding
sound coming from the left-hand side of my front tire. I qickly find a
safe spot to park the car. At first I thought something must have stucked
in-between the brake-pad/disc brake but further evaluation did not reveal
anything. However, the “metallic-grinding” sound was audible when I
continued driving. Not taking any chances, I summoned Volvo-On-Call and
within 15 minutes, it came to the rescue (very reliable indeed).
The guy lifted-up my car and told me the thin metal protector located at
the back of the disc brake had warped (he claimed due to heat and with
time gradually (more than 3 years now) touched the edge of my disc-brake
and that caused the metal grinding noise. He told me not to be alarmed.
He pushed the thin metal protector back with a rod and did the same for
the right front tire. He did not do the same for the rear tires as he
claimed this is front tires phenomenon. At least now i know what to do if
fsced with the same situation.
So if you guys experience the same thing, don’t be alarmed. If there’s
nothing stuck in your brake-pad, simply push the thin metal protector at
the back of the disk-brake with a rod and everthing is back to normal or
if you're too worried, get Volvo-On-Call for assistant.I'll try to take a
photo to give you better comprehension of the above.
Cheers and have a nice day

After enquiring from FA on this matter on the benefits, i decided not to
subscribe to that extended warranty.

Toffee,
I dont remember exactly but it was in the range of RM4K per year. Since
all parts replaced during normal service at authorized volvo service
centers come with at least 6 months warranty, I decided not to go with
the X-tended coverage. Perhaps you should call FA for further info.
hope that help
