My water temperature is about 90C to 100C(in jams). Not sure if this is
normal. According to the guys fr T....O, this is a symptoms of GB
problem. Which was pointed out to them years ago Angry
Warning flash, happens like u said, during both cold & hot temperatures.

Now this is the kind of detail that I was waiting for...

In my case, if moving its about 73C. If jam, at most 95C. Check with
T****o and they said its normal. According to workshop material, it says
the temperature should be around 85C (like most Peugeot and Citroens).

From a engine cooling system perspective, i.e. radiator cooling fans (2
speed type), what should happen is, when temperature is around 92C, the
fan works in low speed mode. If > 98C, its high speed mode. This is
without air-cond switched on. Try this and let your car idle and observe
if this is happening. Bear in mind +/- 2C error due gauge or my info.

I suspect one of your fan is not working since you said > 95C in jam.
Happen to me when I took over the car. Blown fuse! Whew! The fan motor
would have cost RM700+ (spare part shop price).

The thing you need to know is that the GB has a heat exchanger (aka
cooler) unit. Its small and its cooling comes from the engine coolant. If
the coolant temp is high, then the GB cooling isn't as efficient as
thought, ie. the GB atf temp = engine coolant temp. However, the primary
contributor of heat is not the GB, IMHO. Just take a look at the engine
and the GB. Which one should be generating more heat.. obvious rite?

Looking at your last statement, its happens both hot and cold. This
suggest that its not temp related (like in my case). Suggests either hydro
or mechanical related. Hydro can still be fix without dropping GB.

So how is the Ulysee Nouva doing? Interested in it but if it only came with
manual gearbox...does Torino take personalized orders?

Tsunami,
if you read my postings, my case was underfilling. I suspect its also got
something to do with the ATF. Fiat recommends Tutela which my previous
owner's mechanic was using (red in colour). The Ulysse II and I share the
same GB and engine. This is also true for PSA Citroen variants. The AL4 GB
was jointly developed between PSA and Renault. So I woudl say the people
that knows best about the GB would be the PSA Citroen group. I have since
change my ATF to the Esso ATF formulated ONLY for AL4 (PSA
recommendation). Done the ATF level check as per factory workshop
practise. Its so much better. Assuming yours is just a case of ATF fluid
quality and level problem, this shoud solve the problem before we go on to
check on the solenoid problem (if it exist) and the others.

I think its probably worth your while to try this out and see if improves.
After all, sounds like you are already ready to do the GB overhaul thingy.
Whats another bottle of 2 litres ATF to be added just for problem
isolation sakes. Dun worry, I have tried overfilling my GB by 1 litre or
more. Its still running fine. Off course I have drain it out since I did
the ATF level check recently.

Good luck and keep us posted.

hi, the AL4 is recommended. Much better and do change it between 20k to 40k km

Hi. 1st change your gear oil to AL4 from Esso. Change it every 20k to 40k km. The engine high temp pls chk on the cooling fan. engine temp hot got nothing to do with gbox.

Thank you for all the replies. My Ulysse sold off already. But if I were to get another MPV, I don't mind getting the same ride. Since now, most of the gearbox issue is commonly known and it is really not a huge issue but more as an inconvenience.
