Guys,

Test drove the car today. A quiter car than my S40 ride, and the suspension is very supple. Have all the functions that you get from S80, with some more additional functions. I like the fact that the GPS is no longer mechanical and that its showing permanently on the dashboard (like S40, S80 and other S'es, the GPS will mechanically rise from the dashboard). Gone out for a spin for about 15 mins, never really got to test the city auto breaking function though. sad.gif

Overall, excellent car!!! Wish I get some extra cash to spurge on this baby... hehehe...

read the news that the first batch 19 units are all sold out before it was launched.... and if the good respond are continual then VCM will consider CKD...

Hopefully with CKD, the price will drop significantly

Finally got my butt and went to Swedish Marque to test drive the XC60 this morning

Pick up was effortless and the six cylinder engine ensures a smooth and silky acceleration.

Interesting gadgets such as:

- Keyless engine start and I mean literally
- No handbrake. Hand brake is automatically on when one switches on the engine
- Reverse camera
- Compass direction indicator shown on the mirror akin to the fighter plane console
- Child booster seats. My 3 year son absolutely loves it as it allows him to sit at a higher plane so that he can see the view outside the car.

Likewise I am deeply impressed by the new look dashboard.

Concern however are:
- Legroom and width of backseat seem below expectation for the size of the car
- 3 litre car. Road tax is more than RM1500
- Too powerful. May be underutilised for city driving and ferrying kids from school
- MMM.......the fuel consumption. Seems that it is a gas guzzler.

Spoke to sales person. Some pointers:

- Unlikely to bring in the D5 despite upgrading to Euro 2 because it needs tweaking to adapt to local diesel condition. That can only happen if the car is CKD
- Unlikely to be CKD as well
- BUT strong indication 2010 may see a lower cc petrol variant like 2.5 litre Turbo as lower cc engines seem to be the trend moving forward as consumers become more environment conscious.

Although I'm sure Volvo Cars Malaysia do have their valid reasons on this matter, I do find it rather weird in the first place why the XC60 (being an X3 and Q5 and Tiguan competitor) are priced HIGHER than the XC90 (being an X5 and Q7 and Tuareg competitor)

Volvo Cars Malaysia is the only continental car company that have the smaller sibling priced more expensive then the bigger sibling smile_blackeye.gif

Its competitors are all logically priced (the X3 is a lot cheaper than the X5; the Q5 is also a lot cheaper than the Q7; and the Tiguan is definitely the budget version of the Tuareg smile_blush.gif )

Compound this factor to poor second hand value, I really pity the XC60...such a wonderful piece of engineering and well rounded vehicle that is let down by poor pricing strategy...doesn't do justice to this beautiful and very desireable car smile_tongue.gif

very unlikely you will get a year old Xc60 on sale unless that is unschedule selling as normally Volvo resale value will be a big loss on the first 3 years..but not harm trying your luck with SM & FA for any used units on sale..but again i doubt you will find one.

U might want to check out the Q5 - its got the Golf GTI's superb engine with twin clutch DSG 7 speeder ... output of 211 hp for a turbocharged 2.0 (great performer yet easy on the roadtax & running cost ) , new X1 can't even beat it. smile_thumbup.gif
