Soundguy,
I am driving a Rexton RX290, which has indirect injection diesel engine.
Is this equipment also suitable for this engine? Please email me your
friend's no, I am interested to try it out.

Is it like remapping or adjusting the settings in your ECU? I read about
something similar in Singapore but never tried it before. Is it really
that easy to use and does it come with instructions?

You bet it is easy to use! Comes with all the necessary inline cables and
connectors. The word should be "optimizing" the ECU. Reason: The ECU has
been 'limited' due to Emmission Control Standards... so that you get the
discount (50%?) on your green engine roadtax!

I want to ask if there are any side effects on using this product? I mean
the ECU is usually set on conservative mode but by increasing the so
called efficiency, does it put more stress on the engine? and will it
increase the black smoke? Power is one thing but does it affect the
consumption also?

Definitely long term effects, the ECU is not set to a conservative mode but
optimised for the particular engine. Some of these ECU's are programmed
with 5 injection rates in one detonation sequence to maximise burning
properties of the fuel and hence increase power and reduce emissions,.....
mess with that at your own peril! I have heard of melted down diesel
engines cos someone tried to tune up the performance by fiddling around
with the ECU. Same thing happened with Superchips and petrol engines, and
they always came with a disclaimer on engine damage.

Technically, there is no side effects. Long term cannot tell you becos I
do not have any experience! I am only alerting you to the existance of
such a product to increase your driving pleasure. One thing's for sure...
I will definitely get it as soon as I get my Ssangyang Stavic next year!

Black smoke? That only happens when the combustion is not complete. What
the product does is to optimize performance right up to its limit, but
not more! That is its sole purpose, remember?

I assume consumption will be slightly higher ... but not much. Driving
pleasure will be very much higher i am sure!

erzer111,

The set comes pre-tuned for specific engines... so you can't mess around
with it even if you wanted! The settings are computer-controlled.

I don't think I want to mess around with the ECU. I am happy with my car
the way it is especially when it is smoother now and more fuel efficient
with the new product I installed.

Buddyclub... its ok! I understand. As long as you are satisfied with your
Sorento, no reason to push the envelope i guess!

Guys,

Got the 'official' response from my friend. Please see answers in
sequence to the postings/questions!

@911
Turbo boost controller, as its name say, controls the turbo boost
pressure in the intake manifold. It will not be able to increase the
boost before that certain rpm. To increase the boost at low rpm, you need
variable vane/nozzle turbo charger (like the Merc Cdi) or dual stage
turbo charging (either both turbos (different size or set up).

@mondie
As the common rail diesel employs more electronics, you will need an
advance digital tuning box to work together. Reliability with common rail
diesel should not be a problem, with careful setting.

@buddyclub
The Superione is specially for petrol engines, it uses the vacuum in the
intake manifold, to suck in some outside air to create an air swirl
(remember cyclone?). Their brochures call this Ainject small amounts of
agitated air.@ Turbo charged diesel engines do not have vacuum in its
intake manifold, instead is pressurized by the turbo boost pressure. So
the above product may not work the same as for the petrol engines.

@KCHSU
Similar, the new technology is done on the upstream and external of the
ECU, ie. intercepts the data before the ECU, and let the ECU control the
injectors, this way the ECU is still very in control and able to diagnose
any faults or over fueling.

@brusli
Sorry, the 290 uses an old mechanical injection system and is not
suitable with this upgrading. Ever tried the new Xdi 270 and wonders why
the smaller engine is more powerful. The wonders of common rail injection
and electronics control.

@erzer111
This thing is placed before the ECU, this is not re-mapping, this way the
ECU remains original and in control and able to diagnose any faults, over
fueling and emission problems. If the ECU with its original parameters
detects any abnormalities of the system, it shut it down and goes into
the Alimp home mode@ to protect your engine and system.

Melted down diesel engines is definitely due to heavy over fueling, due
to the amount of "after burning" (seen as black smoking) that is
occurring in the exhaust manifold. Sustained excessive Exhaust Gas
Temperature (EGT) damage is cumulative, over 14001 F, you're gambling,
it's only a matter of time until you lose. Optimum power and combustion
come just before the black smoke.

ALL modifications came with a disclaimer anyway..

Diesel engines are very tough, see all the lorries on the roads,
bleaching black smoke and clocking millions of KMs and still running.

@buddyclub
Give it a try, my friend is now giving a try first, buy only if
completely satisfied!
