Hi all! A friend tells me that there is a device that can enhance low RPM
performance in EFI 'common-rail' diesel engines which he has just brought
into the market. Now, I myself do not have a diesel car/SUV but I was
quite impressed with the results on his Sorento! I know how much it s****
when the is a lack of power when pulling out of corners, climbing hills,
etc. so this may just be the answer. I know it can be done for the
Sorento, Rexton, Hilux but others please check back so that i can find
out for you. He also says it is a quick installation and does not mess
with your existing wires, etc. so your warranty will be intact. Any
takers?

Soundguy,
Heard of such product, and it is common in mod. turbo petrol engine. The
turbo boost controller. Also use in turbo diesel engine.
Most turbo charger only kick off at a certain rpm, making the car
sluggish at rpm below it.
The turbo boost controller able to widen the threshold of turbo
activation. And, it is adjustable.

Is this the product u talking about?
Or something else, care to discuss here ?

911,
Actually, it is kinda opposite of the turbo boost controller. What it
does is to improve power and pickup at low RPM and begin to taper of once
hit the preset RPM. This is done so that it is cost efficient in the long
run. After that, your performance SUV/truck engine should be sufficient
to take over. Yes, it is also adjustable but that is where the trick
lies. To find the balance between power and consumption.

In hindsight, maybe RPM is not the right word to use... power and torque
should be more appropriate. This is an exerpt from the product brochure:

"....increased power and torque can be felt. The throttle response is
improved and particularly low and mid range torque is vastly improved,
making the overall performance of the vehicle completely different."

Sorry if I opened a can of worms!

This sound vaguely like a plug in tuning box. Can you provide more
details? I am aware that typically most tuning boxes are designed to
increase the fuelling. Some digital versions will also increase the fuel
pressure if I'm not mistaken but probably at the expense of reliability
since Commonrail diesel engines employ more electronics than direct
injection diesel engines.

You got it buddy! Seems the technology has improved somewhat so the
reliability factor is no longer an issue. Still, I do not have the
experience to vouch for it. Maybe some rich soul willing to be
the "cuttin edge" guy???

Tuning box? this sounds interesting. I have a Kia Sorento at home and the
car is quite powerful and torquey but there is a bit of turbo lag down
low. I have installed the Superione D800 from Singapore and the car feels
a lot smoother to drive and the pick up is also better. The consumption
has come down too...got an extra 6% mileage per tank of diesel.

Can you give more info about this tuning box...

Anyone with experience with the tuningbox ?

http://www.tuningbox.com/index.php

The Tuningbox connects between the original computer and the injection
system of your car. The Tuningbox intercepts the data coming from the
original unit, recomputes and optimises the data before sending the
modified parameters to the pump (only the volume and time of injection are
altered, never the injection or turbo pressure).

Sorry guys for the late reply...

As far i know, what KCHSU says is right. The box modifies, optimises the
data before/after the computer (depends on the model) and voila... you
have a more torque to play with. The parameters are changed as well.
Setup is a clean and simple 10 minute job. Moreover, when you need to
bring your car to service, just remove the box yourself! It is supposed
to be that simple! If you guys are interested, i can pm you my friends
tel no. so that you can try it out.
