DeepSpace,

Imported cars are always better than CKD cars lah, and Stream is in
different class. I heard Civic is very very noisy. Anyway, please update
us on your gearbox noise issue, I also like to know your result. TQ

deepspace,
interested in the tyre you mentioned. Is that for Altis 2004 size, ie
195/55/R17? (or 205/55/R17?).

If yes, can you tell me where you got it from and what price.

My Altis (3 mths old), has some of the 'issues' being talked about.

Like the 'tak' sound from the suspension, but mine is from the front
driver side. Since it only happens occasionally, it doesn't bother me.
Noticed it happens quite consistently with certain type of bumps.

The other thing would be the gearbox (or whatever) sound. Mostly happens
around 60-80 km/h or when i brake to slow down. Since it's not loud, it
doesn't bother me either.

I agree sound proofing is not that good (seems noiser than a Vios?).

biff,

For your 'tak' sound from front driver side, could it be the key and the
remote control knocking against the steering hub?

Gearbox sound comes at around 60-80 km/h? I guess Deepspace and I are
only encounter the noise when the gear shifts from 1st to 2nd and verse
versa. Brake to slow down does give the sound since gear changes from 2nd
to 1st.

The rolling/humming noise from my tyres' uneven ware is loud on certain
road surface. Do you have the same noise?

Altis 1.8 stock tyre size is 195/55/16, which is not a common size in the
market. Usually tyre shop will recommend 205/55/16. I know price of
Continental is around Rm350. Want to give it a try?

Hello Everyone,
I've been very busy with work and "cars" for the past week or so... Anyway I brought in my Altis
to umw on monday and leave it to them to "fix my complaints" for the whole day, I was too busy
with my own work and business. All I know was at the end of the day (5:00pm) I pick-up my car
and they said they have replaced the front shock absorbers and the ball-joints and greased/
servis the whole car bla bla bla... bla bla bla.... They still say the gearbox noise is typical of the
1.8 Altis and there is nothing wrong with it and hence they do nothing - I give up on this issue
with them liao and soon I give-up the car too! But at least the tak-tak sound is gone for now. I'm
just wondering why can't they (umw) fix that when I 1st complaint about a year ago!!! Why have
to make me complaint so many times and bang on their table and then they move their a*ss! So
if your Altis have that sound - bring it in to your sc and ask them to change absorber/ball-joint
and grease/servis - whatever it take, remember you pay RM120k for it and it's not normal to
have that kind of sound - even proton don't have that sound!

biff - As for my tyres, it is 195/60R16, original were 195/55R16 (not R17) and I got it in Brunei
for B$130/- each which is about RM280. There is no BF-Goodrich dealer here in Sarawak. If we
do have it here, it will surely be more expensive than Brunei, even SimeTyre is cheaper there!

vfp - I do not know how Honda Civic ride is like becoz I don't like the car, it looks like gangster
car!!! sorry to say but mean no heartfeeling! But I heard that it is better than Altis!!! So maybe one
of these days I will test drive a Civic just to see how good is it. Anyway, I m considering the
Honda Stream (my 1st choice!) and also the CRV (2nd choice), both within my budget this year.
My 3rd choice would be X3 2.5 bmw - but for that I have to save until year 2007 kakaka...!

Also, I found the Chair fabric get dirty very fast! My wife wore Jeans one time and the seat get
blue stain! So we sent it for cleaning and bought a seat cover and cover it coz it is quite difficult
to clean the seat!

Anyway, I think I have said enough for this post... I m off for holiday next week till next year, til
then, wish you all a merry x'mas and a happy 2006 new year.... bye...

cheers...

Guys,

Thanks for sharing all these informations.
I plan to book 1.8Altis tomorow, but seems like it have negative comments
from the floor. But as one of you mentioned, where for 'free' problem for
a car in the world :)....have to see our luck lioa...

Btw, i am more interested on the Gear Box issues, can you please explain
more ? In fact, i have one Sentra 1.6A , also facing gear box problem
when it shift from 1st to 2nd gear, just a tuck. However, i tested fews
altis before, this does not happened and even WISH.

Do you mind to share how much you guys bought for 1.8 - after net
discount ?

Deepspace,
What could I say..., enjoy your new ride!

Nelson,
I have never come across the eeeee sound your mentioned, please keep us
posted.

Loveland,
Before I decided to take Altis, I actually tested Sentra 1.6 and 1.8 few
times. One thing I discovered was the jerky gearbox, 2 out of 4 tested
cars jerk when gear shifted from 1st to 2nd. Another one got so called
aeroplane sound. That was the major reason I dropped the car even though
I like the shape most.

As for the Altis' gearbox sound, you may hear a sound like "wooo.." when
crusing slowly at 1st gear, and you may also get a sound something
like "vio..." when the gear changes from 1st to 2nd or from 2nd back to
1st. All the Altis I tested so far have the same sound but some people
here don't have it.

By the way, my brake shoes are ready in the SC, I will make an
appointment with them to change them. Actually I have another pending
issue, sometimes I get a sound (like "woooo") when I do backoff. I know
the sound is from front, and most likely related to power steering
(turning the steering will make the sound come or go), but this sound
doesn't come everytime, don't know how to tell the SC.

For those who are going for holiday / back hometown, enjoy your trip!

Mine is a 2001 model Seems to be the best car I have owned so far. The
worst part is Toyota uses Good year tyres which gives the car a 4 x 4
sound after 30,000kms.Now the car is still performing well after
120,000kms. Anyway i'm on yokohama C drive.
