zaki405,
Your estimation/calculation was correct.Profit around RM60K - be divided
into two portions, RM30K for the AP holder(importer) and another RM30K
left to the dealer. That is why we Malaysian must fight for AP free CBU
cars, therefore the AP portion of the profit could be transferred down to
car buyers of caurse if the dealers are not too much of greed!

zaki,
There is no need for a Govt Approved Sales Price anymore. Car
manufacturers do not need to apply to seek approval.

something is wrong.
peugeot 407 = ""Euro 6795 x 4.9565 = 33,679.42""
""Toyota Vios 1.5G A Price before tax : RM31,800""
are you saying the 407 ex factory price is similar to the VIOS ? sure kah?
and
""Port Charges = 22.00"" another dubious figure... my LCL 1m3 cargo have
even higher charges than 22 bucks at port klang.
for 407, 10-12k euro for 407 is more like the right range.
but zaki has a point about high dealer margins...yes it's probably more
than the manufacturer profits per car.

the way I see it, agreed the dealers underdeclare to get high profits...but
would you rather have a 190-200k 407 instead of a 160k car if using the
"right" figures?
if they are ripping off the G in taxes to get super high profits, that's
their illegial problem to deal with...just dun't pass the higher prices to
us going the proper way to earn an extra 20-30k...

Saw one of the reasons why dealers make so much money.
Naza advertised for dealers yesterday. Requirements are as follows:
RM1 million capital upfront
RM250K in either cash/BG for working capital
Showroom - to find and refurbish yourself
Imagine that. All in all, it will probably cost something like RM3
million just to be a Naza dealer and mind you, there are quite a humber of
dealers in town.
Read an article that the new Mercedes Benz showroom on the corner of Jln
Sultan Ismail and Jln P. Ramlee, the Dealer invested a cool RM10 million
to set it up. Can't remember whether it includes stocks.

Theres also workshop overheads, dealer commissions, salesman commissions,
finance manager coverage, advertising, distribution, sales office
overheads. So it aint too bad, I mean if your only pushing 5-6 pugs a
month you need a lot to cover your fixed costs. Even sales people need
that added incentive to go out and sell.
If the prices were cheaper (i.e no tax) but subsequently there was no
petrol subsidy and that 407 was 83K and the Vios/City was about 43K.
everyone would be buying diesels the pug guts would be selling 100 - 1000
cars per month allowing them to throw in more freebies and discounts.
'Government approved selling price' thats a joke really, They should be
allowed to sell at whatever damned price they want according to prevailing
market demand.
