It`s mind boggling to know what we are actually paying for in a car these
days. Take for an example the 407 - actual cost is only around Euro6795
but with everything added in as follows.....

Euro 6795 x 4.9565 = 33,679.42
Freight Insurance = 92.61
Port Charges = 22.00
CIF Value = 33,794.03 (cost, insurance, and freight)
Import Duty (100%) = 33,794.03
Excise Duty (70%) = 23,655.82
Total = 91,243.88
Sales Tax (10%) = 9,124.39
Total Cost = 100,368.27

Car Selling Price = 159,500.00
Cost = 100,368.27
Profit = 59,131.73 ???

In another words, to buy myself one car, I also have to buy two
for the goverment, and another two more for the car importer/dealer.

they can even lower the price 25% if they want.it is just they don`t want
to reduce their big fat profit.
u think they sell cars as what they stated on paper? No profit?c`mon
guys,They always blame the G la,tax la but what abt their big fat margin?

This is another example:

Tax for 2005
---------------
Toyota Vios 1.5G A
Price before tax : 31,800
Import tax : 0 (0% import tax 2005)
----------
Price with import duty = RM31,800
Excise Duty : 28,620 (90% excise duty 2005)
----------
Price with Excise duty = RM60,420
Sales Tax : 6,042 (10% sales tax)
----------
Price with Sales tax = RM66,462
Plus Accessories 12,595
----------
Retail Price = RM79,057 (without reg., road tax, insurance)
======
OTR Price for Vios `05 = RM81,815.70

so,where is their profit?sell cars for free aa?

its nothing really wrong with dealers making excessive profits as is
a "free market" as supposedly is - but this thread is abt whether dealers
are making alot esp from each car - and the simple answer is yes and esp
so for perceived "high class" cars like that of the perceived 3-pointed
star. Thats it. probably shd put in on the rich or noveau rich to keep
the perception-only that only some cars are "elite" and therefore allow
the dealers to make tons out of them; which the dealers shd from such
shallow headed people. Frankly a supposedly prestige manufacturer that
also makes common buses, lorries, mini-vans and even small cars - is
not "prestigious" enough - afterall a bus driver can also say he's
driving a merc and so does a van driver - alongside a driver driving a
basic E200 merc.

it is ok to make profit but be realistic la.
eg vios price from 35k factory price sell at 81k market price how come?

factory price must be around RM15-20k only.So this toyol guys mark up
kaw2 until 35k!

if they declare ard RM25k then selling price should be ard RM60k

the dealers/importers here declare lower price to cut taxes but
declare higher prices when selling to customers blaming the G!
G also is to blame for their exorbitant taxes but dealers..aiyo,please la.
Dun add salt to the wound!

zaki,

Import duty for the Peugeot, should be 300%, and not 100%.

Import tax for Vios, should not be 0%. This is because, car assemblers
would have to order their stock at least 6 months beforehand, and
tehrefore, technically, tax would have been paid when the components
landed in.

Look at it this way...

So what if the dealers or whoever is slitting the throats of Malaysian
consumers?

They taruh outrageous prices also, still confirm got people coming in to
throw the money...

Consumers vote with their wallets. Right now, they're telling dealers to
keep bringing it on... no matter how expensive they whack, we'll still
buy. Look at the AW forums.. seems like everyone has RM100,000 to spend on
cars alone.

So every year, dealer keep whacking a price increase RM2-3K lor...

Ivan,
If I put 300% sure the dealer would sell the 407 at a higher price than
stated!

zaki405,

Yes, but assemblers here localize some parts here, and the cost you base
your calculation on may not be the actual cost, as they have bulk
discounts, subsidy from principal, etc to actually offset some of the
costs.

but the point is,why when declare taxes to G for approval, they always
declare lower price so they pay lower taxes but when selling time to end
customers, they will quote a higher price and show higher tax in the
invoice and blame the exorbitant taxes to justify their high selling price
for their fat belly!

The only way we can stop this kind of slaughtering is by not buying a new
car until the price has come down a bit.We all must stay united and force
the dealers to knock down prices. This is what happened in UK sometime
back.Consumers pocket is more powerful than G.

In UK,cars are actually getting cheaper as the price of manufacturing has
come down due to cost cutting measures and efficient production
system. So,it may not look cheaper but comparing today's cost of living, the
car prices there is almost the same for the past 15 years or so.So can
consider the car prices has come down.

its bcos any non-national marques (except the chinese ones) are
considered luxury cars, that's why they can slap a premium and make a
higher margin from selling those cars
