Looks like the new Wira has parts that last shorter and shorter.

My 1.6 sold early last year has done 220,000kms and is 8 years old.

It was considered immaculate for a Proton when I sold it!

Edar to settle for me, including towing. But, the moment i turn my key, i
know something wrong liao, coz, my car is vy slient as compare to the
usual teeehhhhh.... sound....

It cost me RM680, including RM60 towing charges... Next time I will
change my fuel pump in another 4yr time, coz time's up already. Will
upgrade to 1.6 or 1.8 fuel pump for my 1.5M

First time this has happened to my 8 yr old MMC wira.

Last nite heard some noise but i could not figure out from where the
sound was coming from. It was a humming sound...like a grasscutter was
cutting.

took it to my mech today and he jacked up the car. confirmed it was the
fuel pump. I told him i will go and buy the parts and bring it back to
him.

Drove back from sg.besi to PH auto at seapark. Go for lunch with my wife
cauze its our anniversaryBig Smile As soon as i dropped her back at off, the
car like can't move. Thank goodness i somehow managed to drive slowly and
it was all the way downhill from from sec 19 coming to the rothmans
roundabout. as i reached the roundabout, the car dies. Managed to slowly
push it to the side.

Thank God, there was a mechanic shop nearby. Those guys came to help push
the car to the workshop.

They were really nice guys though my tank was almost full. So, you can
imagine, the amount of work these guys needed to do. They had to open
up...let the petrol fill up in a big tong.

I never knew the replacing the fuel pump was such a hassle.

I paid RM 140 for a denso made in japan fuel pump which i bought at ph
auto. Workmanship together with replacing fuel filter cost me rm 120. The
fuel filter i bought original pw proton at rm 58. Total spent today was
310.

I really had no idea the fuel pump is something that needs to be
considered.

Imagine if my car had stopped at federal highway!!!

As I had posted before, the symtom before failure was the need to restart
the car for the first start in the morning, after about two months
time, then the pump failed, even that the abnormal loud sound of the pump
can warn you before you can travel say another 5 km. This is just my
case.

One thing i noticed on the old fuel pump is that the filter (the white
bag) looked slightly bigger compared to the denso one i fixed.

I hope it does not effect in anyway.

One thing i did notice however is that the car fels much smoother and has
this extra pick up feel.

mabah,

no one exactly know the life time of the fuel pump. As my concern, to
avoid this thing happen u must not practising to refuel your car until the
last drop of your petrol.
The logical is that when your tank nearly empty, the fuel pump will push
to the limit to pump in petrol to engine. In long term it will definitely
cause affect to the fuel pump.

maybe it's true. especially for injection system got scrathing sound when
turn on the key. after the sound gone, then can start the engine. hardly
seen people practicing this. turn on the key and straight away start the
engine.
