hi,
since this is an open discussion about neo and 206. it is fair to compare :
neo 1.6 with 206 1.6
neo 1.3 with 206 1.4(most european manufacturer dont have 1.3)

tested a satria neo 1.6(auto) from jb to kl. top speed was 180kmh downhill,
tried to push harder but that was it. near redline already. 206 1.6 beaten
a perdanaV6 at 190kmh and maxxed 210kmh easily.perdana was wobbling at 190
so that was why it gave way to 206. most continental 1.6 have done 210 such
as alfa 147,146,145, fiat punto elx 1.6,marea 1.6,barava1.6,peugeot 307.
japanese cars can only do 180 because of stability problem.

even though the 206 WRC is a different beast with turbocharging, the other
parts is identical. that means the 206 is a direct pedigree from racing
technology. most peugeot are from racing/rally such as 403,504,405,306,206
and now 307. countless championship have been won such as WRC,hillclimbs
such as pikes peak, rally raids such as dakar rally, rallycross and many
other one make track championship or mixed championship. the peugeot 504 is
even dubbed `king of the african road` up until today.

so no doubt, as the second oldest car manufacturer in the world, peugeot is
very proud of their racing heritage. they even won the world`s first rally
in 1894. so no doubt, neo is not even a worthy rival to a 206. very
sorry.people still dont get it because they never drive one. one bitten,
forever smitten.

Hi everyone! Can't help but notice this comparison between 206 and Neo.
Well...I own both, a Peugeot 206XR 1.4(A) and a Proton Neo 1.6(M) HiLine,
so maybe I can contribute a bit here.

As usual, PUG owners are VERY sentimental when it comes to comparing
their very much loved lions...me too! But since I also own a Neo, maybe I
can be a little bit more objective.

I bought my 206 in June 2005. It's a used unit originally registered in
2000 with 103K mileage then. Neo was bought new in Sept 2006. Am using
both cars now. Although this may not be a totally fair performance
comparison (206 is 1.4l, 75HP and Neo is 1.6l, 110HP), I will just share
my experience.

To improve performance on the 206, I've changed the exhaust system, use
K&N drop-in air filter, Iridium plugs, 14" alloy rims (from Citroen
Xsara), wider (185/60)Falken ST115 tyres. On the Neo, using Iridium
plugs, K&N drop-in air filter & lightened crank pulley but tyres & wheels
are original.

MAximum speed for my 206 (1.4l) is around 160Km/H. Neo already hit
200Km/H and still capable of more if road conditions allows. BOTH cars
are very stable at those high speeds, the Neo more so probably due to
larger wheels(16") & low profile tyres(195/50). Surprisingly, the Neo
feels more planted at high speed corners (>100Km/h) and this probably due
to Lotus technology.

Although with smaller engine capacity and auto transmission, the 206 had
more usable low end torque...meaning more drivable in urban areas, better
overtaking and better fuel consumption as you don't have to rev the
engine more often. Before I upgraded the Neo (especially its crank
pulley), driving it in towns was a chore as pickup was bad due to low
torque at lower rpms. That's why I use the Neo more for long distance
driving.

Comfort...of course the 206 is better. The suspension is more pliant,
seating position higher and more upright, NVH better, interior space
bigger, more cubby holes to put small things, has a usable glove box even
a hidden storage compartment under the front passenger seat.

The Neo is more sparse and minimalist. The front bucket-like seats are
quite comfortable. Seating position is lower but that's how coupe's are.
NVH...well, except for the engine noise at high RPM, it's quite good. The
ride is firmer but that's because of it's sporty nature. I'm sure the
206GTi would be just as firm with larger wheels and sportier suspension.

Rear seats...no contest. The 206 wins but like I said, this comparison is
not entirely fair. Neo is a 2 door coupe but 206 is a 4 door hatch. Space
wise, definitely the 206 wins.

I drove continental cars before (Renaults...3 of them) which was why I
had to find another French car to replace my last Renault in 2005. I just
can't stand driving Japs...they don't have that FEEL!!!

The 206 being 5 years old when I acquired it (and not well taken care of
by its previous owner) had some problems which required it to spend some
time at the workshop time and again so as to put it back to optimal
working condition. I have changed many parts (timing belt, bearings,
absorbers, bushes, mountings, starter, etc, etc) and contrary to common
belief, the parts are NOT as costly as most people think. You need to
know where to acquire them and you need to send it to the right mechanic.
Just an example...ORIGINAL timing belt kit + labour to replace...less
than RM250 and it will last for 80,000Km! All four absorbers + labour to
replace...RM1150. Starter...same as Proton Tiara's...RM220!

So...in terms of maintaining the 206, it's NOT more expensive than
maintaining most other cars. The problem is finding a good mechanic and
the availability of parts (not all spare part shops keep parts for
continental cars). And it helps if you take some effort to know more
about the car. I managed to get a Haynes manual for the 206 and also
refer to Peugeot forums on the internet for pointers.

So, during the time when my 206 needs to be in the workshop, I had to use
my moto1|<ؖUID '!1zulfaag@gmail.comst: 9!:c8B(!sTitle)90Ih_0&!)H9:02.000A!d ؖlast_poster_id'1', 'AAD3*LAsia/Kuala_Lumpur`APдClosedDate1(9(y`2200369', '24338', 'Kia Picanto Owner', '0', 'edlim', '2f8f8e16145c01232c972a7cb0d67db8', '36461', ''89yY/bd (!(!@sStatey9lcally based on alphabetical order, V is higher than E. Ah...the Conti feel. Irreplaceable and unavailable from Jap cars at these
price range. Exactly the reason as to why I got a Savvy as my spare car and
got bashed by idiots over it's handling.

This is joke to compare... omg, first off:
"Let's just say, one is a Lion, one is a Tiger... but does the Tiger live
up to it's reputation? =P
They should change it to a normal Cat instead of Tiger."

The one who mentioned Neo has better handling... uh.. erm... I don't even
NEED to sit on it, by looking at Neo turning on the road I can clearly
judge how bad it's handling and body roll, worst when I watch the demo
video of Neo cornering and also on Magazines, and they DARE to publish
it, or was it *SARSACTIC* publish? Before you even compare handling with
the 206, try to even compare with Korean or Japanese first. As I
mentioned, it's a joke to compare, it's clearly shown in the street
itself how the Neo handles.

As for BUILD quality, I don't think we even need to talk about it, I
can't believe it's even discussed.

As for maintenance, DO YOUR RESEARCH before you judge. First of all, the
most obvious difference, 20K vs 5K service interval. Enough to answer?
Some may argue NOT to service @ 20K, but it's UP to you, it's the same as
Savvy servicing @ 15K, etc. If you think Neo is cheap to maintain, wait
till your service reach MAJOR 40K, 60K, and 80K. Your 80K is 206 ACTUAL
4th service, for Neo is... 16th SERVICE (+1st SERVICE). See the big,
bigger, and so on difference...

There's not even a need to compare, this 206 1.4L clearly is EVEN better
than the Vios/City/Sentra or any car within 100K. The only drawback is
the 1.4L engine which many jugde it under-power. The features, specs, etc
are anytime beat those cars hands down, and even price cheaper than them.
Take Vios E spec (the low spec) for example, it doesn't even have ABS but
priced about 10K more, and there's no Tiptronic... Not to EVEN mention
this is a FRENCH import (Hello? BIG Tax difference) and it's cheaper than
those japanase? And even funnier is, this CKD is about 30K cheaper than
CBU, people complained, whereas Swift CKD drop, er... 10K?????

Lastly, you can't even compare the japanese with the 206 and you want to
compare the *cough* *cough*, small little cat. If you notice, in games
like Underground, the 206 is competing against the Civic, so does in real
world, the 206 GTi vs Civic Type R vs Golf GTi, etc... Here we're
comparing against the Vios/City... *cough* *cough*, *vomit blood*

If price is an issue, then by all means, don't buy the 206. Or if you
can't appreciate/enjoy/value the features, then nobody forces you to go
for it. If you like your Neo, by all means, LOVE your car.

My next car must be a General Motor car because they are the largest car
manufacturers in the world..tie with Toyota. By buying GM cars, I am
assured of spare part availability wherever I go....be it in the Malaysian
jungle or beach. Great logic there Big Smile

Andy214, i'm sorry bro, no offense to you, but if you are judging the
handling of the car based on bodyroll you've seen in pictures, and videos,
i'll have to conclude that you know nothing about handling, and
performance unless you can state otherwise. you need to do some research
as well.

i have driven many cars over the years, neo included(drove one for over
2000km in one trip), and currently own a german conti. i've also been a
driving instructor on an event where the cars used were 206's.

The 206's handle very well of course, and i've had previous experience
with the 405 and 406 as well. They are comfortable, good handling, and
safe on the limit. But if you are talking about pushing the car to the
limit of its handling, the Neo is better in this respect and more fun. At
higher speeds, the neo is also better due to the higher damping rates.

If all out handling, speed and performance is the criteria, and a
racetrack is used as the benchmark, I will say NEO is the better bet and
is quicker also.

in my humble opinion, although proton has fallen short in a lot of
departments, quality, etc. etc., outright driving performance and
handling is something they still excel at. go ask any race driver if you
know any.. in fact, ask ys khong(i hope you guys know who he is), he
bought a neo also.

better wait for neo campro if you can.. 1.6 with 120+hp, that should be
very good value for money and good base to start with.. since both have
pro and cons, i guess bottomline it is up individuals preference..
