hello all Alfa fans,
i am totally new to Alfa but ready to make a change. I am also thinking
about getting an Alfa 146 year 2000-2001. Actually not sure what is the
last year for 146.
So far i know 146 has boxer, t.spark and TSi 2.0. Can you all share your
experience with any of your 146? Some questions are
1. When is the major maintanance period (timing belt change)? 60K, 80K?
2. Which engine more reliable? 1.6/1.7 Boxer , T.Spark, 2.0?
3. What are the engine hp & torque?
4. It is easy to get used body parts?
Hope all of you can help me to clear my mind.
Thank you.

in malaysia we have the year 2000 manufactured model and i think this was
the last batch brought in. Mostly are 1.6 Twin-Spark models but there
seem to be 1 or 2 Ti model around.
Timing belt change is every 40k unless you want to stretch that to 60k but
advice is follow the 40k rule.
hp for the TS i think is 120 (if i am not wrong). maybe the Alfa 146
owners would be able to tell more.
there are a lot of garage and chop shops around for Alfa, so it should not
be a major problem in service and also getting parts.

wsn,
oh! thanks for your tips. wow 40K for timing belt change is really
really short. why alfa like that one?
do u think it is reliable? some mechanic told me the boxer engine is a
big trouble but make a nice engine roar when pump hard.
i need it to run fast like 170-180kph daily for about 15-20min for work.
i also push the rpm to red-line. do u think 146 can stand my style or
driving.
btw, where can get 146? it there a know used car dealer that has many?

AR is a good ride. To ride 170-180 daily should not be a problem cos i
know a lot of AR owners redline their ride almost everyday.
try to go to www.italiaauto.com and look up the Want-To-Sell forum.
It is better to buy from owner rather than used car dealer.
At least with owners, you are able to know the service history
(sometimes, :))
and i must warn you, owning an Italian is an addiction. You will never get
enough of it.
cheers

Haha, reading bout ur driving style, ur really well-suited for an Italian!
Why not look slightly higher and get the 156 or Fiat Coupe instead? These
are slightly biased towards "performance" type category but maintenance
still manageable like the 146. A long long time ago, I nearly got the 146
too (but was avoiding the Boxer cos heard bout the woes) but then decided
to stick to the Coupe and she's really lovely with a capital L :) U can't
go much wrong with Italian makes if ur stylish and fast, but be prepared
for slightly higher (stress on higher part :) compared to Jap and Korean
makes :p
