tazz,

Just a matter of costing. mubull mention the cost of his service is quoted
at RM450. How long or how often is this to be done?

My 12 years old car compressor finally gave way and cost around RM1000 to
repair. If we were to service every 2 years, would have spend RM2700 for
service alone.

rdgs,

hi,

the whole process will take about 2hr from recycle, flushing and
refilling. i think it is better to go by millage use instead of yrs.
from the info i got from Sanden, all PAG should be sync. so u got to ask
Denso about the ND oil. at that time, my air con system was repair
by 'chin chai' mechanic at kuchai lama with not problem PAG oil and
refilling...using hand to feel. the oil they use is for cool room.

then drive straight to Sanden SC at glenmarie and removed the compressor
in order to remove the 'compressor oil' but i know it could be only 70%
with that method. finally found the technology and able to hunt down
which shop in KL got such service. then was when i get to know aircon
station.

i did the flushing last year in march and i don't think i need to do it
again for at least 3yrs. it is more to keep the air con system in most
efficient condition and not a must to do it.

Since I bought my waja 1.8 in March 2003, I have never bothered to
service or topup gas for my aircond. On 26 April 2008, the aircond was
not cool/cold anymore so i went to a shop in Bangi (emergency case since
I need the car for long distance travelling) for service and repair. I
was charged RM400.00 for services and parts as follows;

1. Patco Block Valve RM188.00
2. AutoAir Filter Dryer RM90.00
3. Top up gas RM45.00
4. Compressor Oil RM60.00 (I think a 2 bottles of cheapo brand)
5. Service RM35.00 (I was annoyed that the guy used acid to remove the
grimes and what not)
6. i was given discount RM18.00

Was I conned by them or what? I have no experience when it comes to
aircond parts.

The old-timer aircond service shop, Fresh Air at Jln Yahya Awal, JB, that I
go to recommends a minimum maintenance service of changing the
receiver/filter/dryer (the botol thing) and recycling & topping up
refrigerant + lubricant every 30k km/1.5 years. Can I continue doing just
this servicing at the recommended intervals as long as nothing else breaks
down or leaks?

Oh yeah, anyone here aware of or have tried the spray-on foam evaporator
coil cleaner from Amway? Saw it in an Amway catalog a few years back
selling at around RM25/can. No idea whether it really works, but it claims
to be able to clean out the dirt & dust by spraying on the foam and then
setting the temperature to lowest and letting the condensed water wash away
the dirt & dust. It also claims to leave a coating or something to
neutralise any acidic compounds that cause corrosion/punctures.

if your car compressor are cheaper then I think not neccesary loh , if the
replacement of new compressor are expensive then maybe service every 30-
40k KM loh, but I still dun preferred some mechanic used chemical or some
even used petrol to clean the Condensor and Cooling Coil..Maybe top up gas
and Compressor Oil only.

My in law send to Honda SC to chk on aircond and was quote almost 3K. Went
outside and pay 500 to replace a Magnetic thingie and solved the problem ..

So looks like is 3K for the City compressor.gila???

Denso service in glenmarie now offering 25% discount on denso parts only
up until 31st July 2008. The parts there are pretty reasonably priced.

From my own experience, recond compressors are not as good as original
ones... one of it we got was noticeably noisier during operation. If I can
start over again, I'd most probably service it regularly instead of doing
nothing for like 6~7 years till the compressor jammed...

Ya.. make sense and is up to the owner.

Recon compressor are quite subjective or perhaps depends on luck kuah. I
do not hv much knowledge in this area but not so lucky last time when I
changed my ex.Hyundai Coupe Compressor Patco (new unit cost 1300) to
Toyota Recon unit as its noisy during operation. But then I got a good
Recon unit for my ex-Civic. Reeally dunno why, maybe never pray.MUHAHA
