The Proton X90 made its debut in Bangladesh on 29 February with an official launch programme in its capital city, Dhaka.

PROTON will be offering 2 variants of the X90 there i.e. the X90 Flagship 6-seater, and the X90 Premium 7-seater. Bangladesh is the 4th export market for the model. To-date, 25 units have already been registered, in less than 2 weeks following its unveiling.Proton X90_Launch_Bangladesh_RANCON

Along with the Proton X70 which is also sold in Bangladesh, and with more orders already confirmed and in the pipeline, PROTON shares optimism for its first New Energy Vehicle (NEV) model to carve out a market niche prior to a local assembly (CKD) programme there starting later in the year.

Speaking to guests and the media during the launch, Dr Li Chunrong, CEO of PROTON, said, “PROTON is confident RANCON Holdings is the perfect partner for Proton to be successful in Bangladesh. They are already establishing a sales and aftersales network and will invest in a manufacturing line to locally assemble Proton vehicles in the future. With more offerings in the pipeline, as well as our commitment to support all facets of the partnership, we aim to be a the top-3 brand in Bangladesh within 3 years.” Proton X90_Bangladesh_Dr Li Chunrong_HE Haznah Md. Hashim

The official launch of the Proton X90 was attended by H.E. Haznah Md. Hashim, High Commissioner of Malaysia to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, and Romo Rouf Chowdhury, Group Managing Director, RANCON Holdings Limited, the exclusive distributor for PROTON in Bangladesh.

A critical component to PROTON achieving its lofty targets in Bangladesh will be the setting up of an assembly line. Aside from allowing its products to qualify for more favourable tax rates, a new plant also encourages the development of skilled local workers while energizing the vendor ecosystem through technology transfers. Operations are expected to begin as early as 2024, with strict production standards enforced to ensure the output matches the quality of vehicles built in Tanjong Malim.

“To ensure product quality in export markets that have local assembly are the same as the vehicles built in Malaysia, PROTON is leaning on its experience of using the Volvo Global Quality Standard, which has been instrumental in improving the quality of our products. We know there is a lot of hard work ahead of us to reach this level and for this partnership to meet its goals, but we are confident that together with our partner, the Proton brand can be a major fixture in Bangladesh,” added Dr Li Chunrong.  Proton X90_Bangladesh

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars proudly introduced an exquisite example of its coachbbuilding expertise – the Rolls-Royce Arcadia Droptail, a bespoke embodiment of tranquility. The Arcadia Droptail epitomises quiet irreverence that celebrates the purity of form and natural materials while reflecting the client’s personal style.

The Arcadia Droptail was commissioned by a client who possesses a distinct affinity for architecture and design. Named after the mythical realm of Arcadia, told in Greek mythology as a ‘Heaven on Earth’, this car is a serene space characterised by reduction, material depth and tactility that would serve as a sanctuary from the complexities of business life. To capture this feeling of tranquillity, Coachbuild designers took inspiration from the client’s favourite regions around the world, including the modernist tropical architecture from Singapore, Indonesia and Vietnam as well as British ‘Biomimetic’ architecture, where organic forms and material honesty are celebrated.

Using the earliest of hand-drawn concept sketch of the vehice, the client was taken by the motor car’s bold, low stance, ensconcing cabin design and dramatic body lines, with distinct nautical inspiration behind Droptail’s ‘sail cowls’.

Rolls-Royce Coachbuild designers developed a calm, natural duo-tone colourway for the motor car’s coachwork. The body colour is a bespoke white infused with aluminium and glass particles that create a shimmering effect under sunlight to form the illusion of depth in the paintwork. Meanwhile, the carbon fibre lower sections are painted in a contrasting Bespoke silver, enhancing the car’s dynamic profile. As tribute to the brilliant mirror finish of brightwork on historical Rolls-Royces, the grille surround, ‘kinked’ vane pieces and 22″ alloy wheels have been fully mirror-polished. Rolls-Royce Arcadia Droptail_Grille_Headlights

Inside, the focus shifts to wood, reflecting the client’s personal aesthetic style. Santos Straight Grain wood, known for its rich texture, adorns the interior to present a crafted modern statement. The wood is meticulously applied throughout the car, with special attention given to protection against varying climates due to its delicate nature. A Bespoke lacquer was developed specifically for Arcadia Droptail, requiring just one application for the lifetime of the motor car. Santos Straight Grain is used throughout Droptail, including the aerodynamically functional rear deck section, where the grain of the open pore veneer is laid at a perfect 55° angle. In all, Rolls-Royce artisans used a total of 233 wood pieces throughout, with 76 pieces applied to the rear deck alone.

Applying wood to the complex curvatures of Droptail’s interior required Rolls-Royce engineers to develop an entirely new substructure for several components. The dramatic geometry of the dashboard, door linings and central cantilevered ‘plinth’ armrest had to be incredibly rigid to ensure the stability of the wood pieces once they were laid in place. Engineers called on carbon fibre layering techniques used in Formula 1 racing to develop a stiff base onto which the wood could be applied, ensuring that it remained secure regardless of the dynamic extremes the motor car experienced. Meanwhile, the leather interior is finished in Bespoke white and tan hues to complement the wood details and create a harmonious atmosphere.

A bespoke clock, incorporating intricate geometric guilloché patterns, serves as a nod to the marque’s heritage and reflects the client’s appreciation for detail and precision. This is the most complex clock face Rolls-Royce ever created, with the assembly alone taking 5 months. This was preceded by over 2 years of development. The clock has 119 facets of raw metal in its pattern, a nod to Rolls-Royce’s 119th anniversary (in 2023 when the client previewed the car). The clock face also includes partly polished, partly brushed hands and 12 ‘chaplets’ (hour markers) measuring just 0.1mm thick and painted by hand using a camera capable of magnifying an image by up to 100x. The clock design is also used in the instrument dials, sharing materials, techniques and execution. Rolls-Royce Arcadia Droptail_Clock

The Arcadia Droptail is the culmination of a collaborative process spanning over 4 years, resulting in a design that perfectly embodies the client’s tastes and identity. Its minimalistic execution and attention to detail make it a timeless masterpiece, showcasing the skill and dedication of Rolls-Royce Coachbuild designers.

This unique expression of Rolls-Royce craftsmanship reflects the client’s confidence, vision, and longstanding relationship with the brand. It serves as a testament to the artistry of bespoke automotive design and the ability to capture the essence of an individual’s soul in a motor car.

“Rolls-Royce Coachbuild is the pinnacle expression of this incredible brand, and an unmatched concept in the luxury sector. In this department, the world’s most influential individuals collaborate with our designers, engineers and craftspeople to bring completely new ideas to life. Together, they create exquisite motor cars that not only become a cherished part of the commissioning client’s personal story but also add to the proud history of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. Clients curate every facet of these masterpieces, which are brought into being by what I believe is the most talented team of experts in the luxury industry. Arcadia Droptail exemplifies this approach. This motor car is deeply connected to the client’s personality and preferences, and in capturing their character we have been empowered to make inspiring design, craft and engineering statements that show the world our ambition, and our unparalleled abilities,” said Chris Brownridge, Chief Executive, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.  Rolls_Royce_Arcadia Droptail_Clay

Porsche has introduced its upcoming model with a record-breaking run. On 23 February 2024, the upcoming Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package claimed the title of fastest electric series-production car at the Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca, in California. The car, driven by Porsche development driver, Lars Kern, completed a lap in just 1:27.87 minutes. Porsche Taycan Turbo GT_Laguna Seca Record

Prior to this, a pre-production version of the Taycan Turbo GT set a new class record at the Nürburgring, with Kern also behind the wheel. With a lap time of 7:07.55 minutes on the Nordschleife, the Taycan Turbo GT outperformed Kern’s previous record by 26 seconds, set in a Taycan Turbo S Sport with the performance package. The latest achievement by Kern also stands as the current record for series-production electric cars, and also makes the Taycan Turbo GT the fastest 4-door of any powertrain type on the Nürburgring.

“The two records in Laguna Seca and on the Nordschleife show what great track potential there is in the Taycan,” said Model Line Vice President Kevin Giek. “To prove your mettle on the track, it’s not enough to simply have as much power as possible. The overall package of accelerating and braking, cornering grip, aerodynamics, stability and fine-tuning has to be right. In the Taycan Turbo GT and the Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package in particular, our engineers have achieved this in absolutely stunning fashion. They have already done a great job with the recently updated existing Taycan models. But our new GT cars yet again clearly raise the bar even higher in terms of driving dynamics.”Porsche_Taycan Turbo GT

“The track at Laguna Seca pushes the Taycan Turbo GT to the limit. It’s the overall package that makes the difference,” said Lars Kern. “The Turbo GT with Weissach package sets new standards in almost every metric. These include acceleration and braking, an Attack Mode that’s intuitive to use and a powertrain designed for maximum traction and performance. And the cornering grip levels are just as impressive. The controllability and light-footedness are unbelievable. The tyres work very well and you have the right balance in every driving situation. It is incredibly good fun to drive this car around the undulating track at Laguna Seca.”

Porsche had extensively upgraded the Taycan range and generally increased the overall system power of the cars. The enhanced powertrain with a new rear-axle motor enables even more dynamic performance compared to the preceding models. The Taycan Turbo GT and Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package are the new sporting flagship models and take Taycan performance to the next level. Fitted with a more powerful pulse inverter, both cars have 580 kW (778 hp) at its disposal. With Launch Control, that increases to up to 760 kW (1,019 hp) of overboost power or up to 815 kW (1,093 hp) for 2 seconds according to the peak power measurement method¹. The maximum torque in both versions is up to 1,340 Nm.

As a result, the Taycan Turbo GT needs only 2.3 seconds to complete 0 to 100 km/h sprint (2.2 seconds with the Weissach package). This makes the model 1- to 2-tenths of a second faster than the Taycan Turbo S. The difference in acceleration from a standstill to 200 km/h is even greater i.e. 6.6 seconds for the Taycan Turbo GT (6.4 seconds with Weissach package), which is up to 1.3 seconds quicker than the Taycan Turbo S. The driving range of the Taycan Turbo GT models is up to 555 km according to WLTP measurements.

Attack Mode is based on the push-to-pass function of the other Taycan models.² The system is optimised for driving on the track and functions in a similar way to the 99X racing cars that Porsche uses in the Electric ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. The boost is indicated by a countdown timer in the instrument cluster and dynamically staged with animated rings on the speedometer.³ At the push of a button, up to 120 kW (161 hp) of additional power is available for 10 seconds.

Compared to the push-to-pass function in the other Taycan models, Attack Mode offers 50 kW (67 hp) more power and is available in different ways: as an alternative to pressing the mode switch that’s mounted off to the side of the steering wheel boss, Attack Mode can also be activated and deactivated via the right-hand paddle. This makes the function easier to use on the track.

“You can also trigger the boost with racing gloves, and without taking a hand off the wheel,” explained Kern. “With this simple, safe and fast means of operation, the Taycan Turbo GT models are tailored to the needs of a racing driver.” Additionally, with the left steering wheel paddle, the recuperation level can be set and adapted to the driving situation.

Moreover, lightweight construction measures ensure optimal agility and road-holding capabilities. The Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package has its weight reduced by 75 kg compared to the Turbo S, courtesy of carbon fibre and CFRP (carbon fibre reinforced plastic) parts.

The Taycan Turbo GT comes with the Dynamic package as standard. This includes the Porsche Active Ride suspension with GT-specific tuning which ensures a balanced distribution of wheel loads for optimal contact with the road. Additionally, the equipment package includes special performance summer tyres which are fitted to exclusive 21″ lightweight forged wheels which have relief-milled spokes to save weight and effectively ventilate the brakes.

The Taycan Turbo GT also comes standard with lightweight ceramic brakes. Based on the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB), the brake system has been optimised from a weight perspective. Design changes to the brake disc chamber and the brake calliper (painted in exclusive Victory Gold) housing shave off more than 2 kg, creating a positive effect on both the driving dynamics and performance; reducing the unsprung and rotating masses enhances performance. Porsche Taycan Turbo GT_Weissach Package_Rear Wing

Externally, the Taycan Turbo GT sports aerodynamic enhancements, a front spoiler with aeroblades and adaptive rear spoiler. The Weissach package features a fixed rear wing in a carbon-weave finish with wing supports fixed to the body. Inside, the cockpit exudes a sporting ambience, featuring lightweight full bucket seats, Race-Tex upholstery with black leather trim, and GT-specific detailing. Exclusive interior equipment with contrasting tones in Volt Blue or GT Silver are available on request. Also, Front Adaptive Sports Seats Plus (with electric 18-way adjustment and memory package) can be ordered as an option and at no extra charge. Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has launched the all-new 2024 Volkswagen Touareg R-Line. The launch of VW’s flagship SUV marks a milestone for the Malaysian market as it is locally assembled in Pekan, Pahang. The Touareg, now in its 3rd generation, has a special place in Volkswagen’s history as the brand’s first SUV, debuting in 2002. With over 1.14 million units sold worldwide, it continues to be one its most popular SUVs.

Volkswagen Touareg_Denyu Bostandzhiev_Charles Lim“The Touareg carries the biggest significance for Volkswagen and is a pioneer in so many ways. This was our first SUV, truly the DNA of Volkswagen’s SUVs began with the Touareg. And to be the first country to locally assemble the Touareg outside of its factory in Slovakia is a big recognition from the Volkswagen Group,” commented Denyu Bostandzhiev, Managing Director of VPCM. “As our top-of-the-range offering, I believe the Touareg will appeal to a group of customers in the premium SUV segment looking for something that extra special. With its commanding design and list of pioneering tech, the Touareg will set them apart from other SUV drivers.”

This flagship VW SUV is powered by a 3.0L V6 TSI engine which delivers 340 PS (335 hp) and 450 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and intelligent 4MOTION system to offer dynamic performance and sure-footed traction on any terrain.Visually, the Touareg projects a commanding stance courtesy of its refreshed front and rear design elements. Notable enhancements include a redesigned radiator grille, headlights, and front apron, along with a sharper rear end featuring a continuous horizontal LED strip and an illuminated rear Volkswagen logo. The illuminated logo was previously only available in markets such as China and USA.

On the topic of illumination, besides the LED strip that sits in the front grille, the main source of light comes from a pair of IQ LIGHT HD MATRIX headlights, touted as one of the best lighting systems in the world. The intelligent matrix headlights have more than 38,000 interactive micro-LEDs to provide precise lighting of the road and signage.

Another first for a Volkswagen in Malaysia is the Night Vision feature which enhances visibility in nighttime driving. The system uses an infrared sensor in the camera to detect thermal signatures from humans or animals, up to 130 metres ahead to keep the driver aware of potential collision. Rounding off the executive exterior appearance are a set of 20″ Braga alloy wheels.

In the cabin, passengers are treated to a luxurious and technologically advanced environment. The 730W 13-speaker Dynaudio Consequence sound system, with an 80W amplifier, provides an immersive “concert hall” experience. While the Touareg-exclusive 4-zone climate control provides a customisable cool environment for front and rear passengers. Rear passengers can tailor the temperature, blower intensity and direction of the air to their preference, while the front occupants can enjoy Active Climate Seats for added comfort.

For the driver, the highlight is the Innovision Cockpit which merges the 15″ touchscreen Discover Pro Max infotainment display with the 12.3″ digital cockpit for a seamless one-screen design. Complementing the infotainment system are Wireless App-Connect and wireless phone charging.

In terms of practicality, the Volkswagen Touareg offers great versatility thanks to its air suspension system with Automatic Self-Levelling. This system automatically adjusts vehicle height to match terrain conditions, and can lower the ride height by 40 mm for easier loading or unloading of cargo. Cargo space expands to 810 litres with the rear seats down. Furthermore, a water wading level of 550 mm offers greater confidence when driving in Malaysia in the rain. Isuzu Malaysia has launched its Euro 5 compliant version of its Forward medium-duty truck i.e. Isuzu FVR Smoother 4×2 (FVR34UU-SDN). In addition to the FVR model, Isuzu Malaysia also introduced the light-duty ELF truck range that complies with the Euro 4 standard for the very same reason. “The introduction of the new Isuzu FVR Euro 5 Smoother AMT and ELF Euro 4 trucks demonstrate our commitment towards the Isuzu Environmental Vision 2050 carbon-neutral strategy roadmap that seeks to maintain our leadership in transportation, minimise environmental impact, contribute to the development of logistics and build a prosperous and sustainable society,” said Shunsuke Okazoe, Chief Executive Officer of Isuzu Malaysia.

“Isuzu’s wide range of products have been highly trusted and appreciated by customers for the ability to deliver outstanding benefits for their logistics businesses,” he added. “This trust has consistently granted Isuzu the accolade of being recognised as the top truck brand in Malaysia for the 10th consecutive year and light-duty truck brand for the 14th consecutive year. This is also a testament that Isuzu understands what our customers need in order to stay competitive and resilient in the midst of adapting in the evolving landscape.” Isuzu ELF_Euro 4

As the name indicates, the Isuzu FVR Smoother is fitted with the Smoother AMT (automated manual transmission), and joins the range of Isuzu trucks, from light-duty to prime mover, to be fitted with it. The AMT gearbox offers the best of both manual transmission as well as automatic without being too costly.

The Isuzu Smoother AMT is meant to enhance driving efficiency. It features computer control that is assisted by a torque converter hydraulics system which operates the clutch and throttle to match revs for gear changes. This results in smoother gear shifts, especially in frequent stop-start situations thereby improving efficiency, and also reduces driver fatigue. Isuzu_Smoother AMT

The Isuzu FVR Smoother is powered by a 6HK1-TCN 6-cylinder 7.8L engine with 240 PS (237 hp), and has a 19-tonne GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight) capacity to allow owners to maximise load and optimise cost. Its front axle capacity is rated at 7,500 kg while the rear axle is 13,000 kg. Additionally, its brakes feature an outboard drum design which eases maintenance as there is no need to remove the hub when changing the brake lining. Isuzu_Forward_Real Wheel

Both the Isuzu Forward (FVR) and ELF series are built with the Isuzu Safety Plus platform. The FVR Smoother comes with anti-lock braking system (ABS), driver airbag, and Hill Start Aid to prevent roll-back on a slope. Meanwhile, the ELF has ABS, driver airbag, electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), and anti-slip regulator (ASR).

Other features for the FVR include a cabin tilt warning, LED headlights, USB port, central locking with remote keyless entry and an immobiliser. Isuzu Forward_FVR_Smoother AMT_Cockpit_Steering

Okazoe-san also commented that Isuzu customers will benefit from the improved emissions standards. With the Euro 4 and Euro 5 compliant engines, these Isuzu trucks are more efficient while emitting less particulates and other gases. Furthermore, like the Euro 4 trucks, the FVR Euro 5 trucks run with a diesel oxidation catalyst that is cost-efficient and does not require AdBlue.

From 11 to 29 March, the company will be organising the Isuzu Smoother Drive across Isuzu dealerships in Malaysia. This nationwide roadshow will showcase the reliability and efficiency of its trucks over long distances, and will also act as a corporate social responsibility programme to deliver aid and care to the underprivileged and seniors.
