Konsortium E-Mutiara Berhad is set to revolutionise its premium coach services with a major fleet expansion, following its purchase of brand-new double-deck and single-deck coaches built on Euro V-spec MAN RR5 26.440 chassis.

The Kelantan-based express bus operator has ordered a total of 55 double-deck and 12 single-deck coaches from MAN Truck & Bus (M) Sdn Bhd, marking a significant milestone in the company’s operational growth plans. The new vehicles will support E-Mutiara’s move into new services and expand its presence beyond the current intercity routes. E-Mutiara is one of the largest bus operators in Malaysia. Konsortium E-Mutiara_MAN Double-Deck Coaches

The first batch of 10 units—42-seater, 13.5-metre-long MAN double-deckers with lightweight aluminium bodies by Gemilang Coachwork—was officially handed over recently in Johor Bahru.

These coaches come equipped with MAN’s advanced safety and fleet technologies, including Telematics and a Fleet Management System. The vehicles are speed-limited to 90 km/h and feature safety systems such as Electronic Braking Assistance (EBA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), and Cruise Control as standard.

An additional innovation introduced by E-Mutiara is the integration of a 10″ tablet on the dashboard, which digitises and updates the pre-departure checklist and passenger manifest—eliminating the need for physical documents and manual sign-offs by supervisors at every destination.

Speaking at the handover event, E-Mutiara Managing Director Naemah bt Ya’acob said, “Our decision to go with MAN, our first brand switch in 15 years, reflects our confidence in the brand’s ability to grow with us to the next level. We always believe in the quality and durability of German engineering and the new generation of MAN vehicles are technologically advanced and there is a high level of digitalisation in their back-end operations. MAN Bus_Double Deck Coaches_E-Mutiara_Gemilang Coachwork

We also like that MAN’s Service and Repair contract allows us to focus solely on our operations and better manage our cashflow as the cost per kilometre is fixed with no surprises,” she added.

MAN Malaysia’s Head of Bus, Anvar Kasimov, expressed appreciation for the partnership: “We are pleased to support the continued recovery of the bus industry. Our MAN Bus/Coach chassis offer the perfect combination of proven reliability, comfort and safety, fuel efficiency and sustainability. In MAN, I believe E-Mutiara has found the right and reliable partner to help simplify and grow their business. Our promise to them and every one of our customers — More peace of mind, optimum uptime and lower total cost of ownership.”

All MAN coaches supplied to E-Mutiara meet Euro V emissions standard, ensuring cleaner operations and alignment with sustainability goals.

E-Mutiara currently operates routes such as Kota Bharu–Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh–Singapore, and Kuala Perlis–Singapore. The company is eyeing further network expansion, with plans to enter new regions beyond Peninsular Malaysia by the end of the year.

The operator also intends to build on the positive response to its Mutiara Luxe premium service by introducing new comfort and technology features aimed at capturing a bigger share of the executive coach segment.

“Even as we do so, we will continue to ensure that E-Mutiara plays its part in providing affordable, safe, comfortable and timely economy express bus services to the public like we have done for the past 3 decades. We believe travel should be something to look forward to, not endure,” said Puan Naemah. Konsortium E-Mutiara_MAN Truck & Bus_Double Deck Coaches_Euro 5

Chery Malaysia recently previewed 2 new plug-in hybrid models—the Tiggo 7 PHEV and Tiggo 8 PHEV—highlighting a key strength that is set to appeal to local buyers: an electric-assisted driving range of up to 1,200 km. The 2 SUVs were unveiled at the launch of Chery’s new Super Hybrid (CSH) platform which is designed to combine high efficiency, seamless performance, and long-distance capability.

Targeting Malaysian families as well as eco-conscious drivers, the new plug-in hybrid SUVs signal Chery’s entry into the local PHEV segment, with full launch details to be announced in the near future. Chery Super Hybrid Platform_Mars Architecture

The heart of the CSH system is a 1.5L turbocharged Dedicated Hybrid Engine that achieves 44.5% thermal efficiency, paired with a high-efficiency electric motor. Together, the hybrid system produces 255 kW (342 hp) and 525 Nm of torque. This is mated to a Stepless Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) that enables intelligent and smooth transitions between electric and hybrid drive modes. The result is a claimed range of up to 1,200 km on a full tank and charge—a benchmark figure aimed at easing range anxiety and positioning the Tiggo PHEVs as practical daily drivers with serious long-distance ability. This hybrid powertrain will also help to reduce fuel expenses, with its ability for all-electric drive of up to 90 km. Chery Super Hybrid

Both the Tiggo 7 PHEV and Tiggo 8 PHEV are fitted with a lithium iron phosphate (LiFePo4) battery that is IP68-rated for water and dust resistance. It is also safeguarded by Chery’s Guardian Battery Safety Protection System and can withstand extreme temperatures up to 95°C. The battery supports fast charging (40 kW DC) from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes, and takes 3 hours for the same on 6.6 kW AC charging.

The Chery Super Hybrid platform also features intelligent energy management to maximise efficiency, reduce emissions, and adapt power usage based on driving conditions. Chery’s hybrid journey began in 2001, with the formation of a dedicated research and development team focused on clean energy solutions. Over 2 decades later, this effort has culminated in the 5th-generation CSH, refined and engineered for global deployment, including markets like Malaysia.

Chery Malaysia Vice President, Michael Chew commented, “With the Chery Super Hybrid platform, we aim to provide Malaysian drivers with the flexibility of electric driving, the range confidence of a hybrid, and the performance of a Chery.”

Nizmar Mohd Nazar, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii); Soon Boon Peng, Network Director, Chery Malaysia.

These new models are the latest additions to Chery’s CSH line-up following the recent launch of the Tiggo Cross Hybrid. Blending style, practicality, and extended range, the Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8 PHEVs are expected to appeal to a wide range of users, including city commuters, growing families, and those who occassionally make long-distance road trips.

To further emphasize its technology leadership, Chery has subjected its hybrid battery system to a global series of extreme safety tests. Trials conducted in China and Indonesia have tested the battery under crash, flood, and corrosion conditions, while upcoming tests in Mexico will assess underbody protection across rugged terrain.

Chery’s plug-in hybrid range is part of a broader electrification strategy that includes petrol, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric vehicles for Malaysia. More information on the launch timeline, variants, and pricing is expected soon.

Stronger Presence, More Practical Cabin

The most visible updates are found in the exterior, where the HR-V features a redesigned front grille, reprofiled LED headlights with Active Cornering Lights (RS variant only), and a full rear LED light strip. New 18″ two-tone alloy wheels now come standard for all variants, while the e:HEV RS variant receives a new RS styling package for added road presence.

Inside, the facelifted model delivers a cleaner layout with a new floating 8″ Display Audio Unit, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and USB-C ports for front and rear passengers. The e:HEV RS adds RS-branded sport seats and a wireless charging pad, giving the cabin a premium yet sporty feel.
