All-New Honda City RS Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive Will Make World Premiere In Malaysia
Honda Malaysia has announced that the all-new Honda City RS with intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD) will make its world premiere in Malaysia. The RS will be introduced together with three other variants of the 5th generation City most like in Q4 of 2020, all of which are now open for booking.
The RS is conceptualised as ‘Road Sailing’, and offers Honda’s version of sporty and stylish appeal. The i-MMD powertrain system, known globally as e:HEV, spearheads Honda’s Next Generation Hybrid Technology to provide eco-conscious performance without compromising on driving enjoyment. The new powertrain provides high efficiency electrification combined with direct and smooth response. The i-MMD powertrain was previously only available in Honda’s larger class of vehicles.
Honda engineers have adapted the i-MMD system to be more compact and efficient to fit smaller vehicles. The new Honda City still comes with a 1.5L i-VTEC engine albeit updated for performance and efficiency. For the RS variant, the i-MMD powertrain delivers best-in-class torque of 253 Nm for faster acceleration, equivalent to a D-segment or a 2.5L Naturally Aspirated engine.
“The City has proven to be an important model for Honda Malaysia, a favourite among many Malaysians for its spaciousness, practicality and safety features. Since its introduction to the Malaysian market in 2001, the model has an accumulated total sales of 351,000* units with the most sought-after 4th Generation City which was launched in 2014 contributing more than 205,000* units and upholding its No. 1 position in the B-segment. The launch of the All-New City RS with new powertrain in Malaysia will be the world premiere and being introduced for the first time ahead of other countries. We believe that this new model will excite the market with its advanced styling and engineering as Honda continues to lead the way in pioneering benchmarks and introducing Next Generation Advanced Technology that is ahead of its time,” commented Honda Malaysia Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Toichi Ishiyama.
Notable features of the all-new City includes new LED headlights (RS & V variants) with LED daytime running lights (DRL) as well as new LED tail lights. The RS and V variants also sport 16″ aluminium wheels in dual tone finish**.
Further, the RS also gets a new Black Door Mirror** that creates a two-toned expression of the body colour.
The all-new City also boasts some B-segment firsts, namely Honda LaneWatch (RS & V), a camera-based safety technology which assists to monitor blind spots. Further, there is the segment-first Electric Parking Brake (EPB)** which replaces the handbrake lever.
In conjunction with the government’s PENJANA initiative to exempt sales tax on new car purchases, Honda Malaysia is offering new car buyers a RM1,000 Service Voucher*** under the ‘All-New City Special Early Booking Programme’****.
