Daihatsu Malaysia Partners With Free Tree Society Kuala Lumpur To Promote Rewilding Roadshow

Daihatsu Malaysia, distributor of compact commercial vehicles, is partnering with Free Tree Society Kuala Lumpur (FTS) to promote the Rewilding Roadshow that encourages Malaysians to plant green spaces at home to support biodiversity and sustainability.

The initiative will see FTS not just giving out various plant species for free to the public, but providing people with a starter base of knowledge of plants and the purpose of re-greening their surroundings. The plants have been carefully chosen to not only benefit homeowners and their families, but also contribute to biodiversity in the face of climate change which we are currently experiencing.

“Many homeowners pave over their garden spaces or leave balconies bare, resulting in hot, sterile spaces. As Malaysia becomes more urbanised, there is a break in the transmission of knowledge about planting and the benefits of biodiverse green space. Many urban Malaysians simply do not know appropriate plants to grow in their environment and how to care for them,” said Baida Hercus, president of FTS.

“Harmonious coexistence with the earth and society is our responsibility” is one of Daihatsu Group’s philosophies and the Rewilding Roadshow by FTS happens to be a natural fit to Daihatsu’s Environmental Action Plan 2030 which is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

“Daihatsu Malaysia first formulated the ‘Rewilding Roadshow’ environmental initiatives exclusively with FTS in mid-June of 2019. This year, celebrating our 40 Years of establishment in Malaysia, we’ll be kicking off 2020 by embodying global Daihatsu Group ‘Light You Up Action’ in promoting sustainable environmental conservation through yet another exciting collaboration, this time with FTS and Taman Tugu Project,” said Muhammad Fahmi, Senior Manager Corporate Planning, Product and Marketing of Daihatsu Malaysia.

“With Daihatsu Green Van strategically placed at Taman Tugu Nursery, we aim to enhance the brand confidence with a close affinity to its park residents, communities as well as foreign visitors together with achieving zero-balance environment load vehicle carbon emissions,” Fahmi added.

The Rewilding Roadshow will be stationed at Taman Tugu and will give away plants for free on weekends and public holidays. Taman Tugu is a lush forest park in the heart of Kuala Lumpur that functions as a carbon sink for the Klang Valley. It is also a calm space for those wanting to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city.

“We believe it is imperative to replicate green lungs any way and everywhere. Green lungs are invaluable habitats, and are urgently needed as we have either seen or experienced the consequences of deforestation,” said Meinal Hussein, Head of Activation and Engagement of Taman Tugu Project. “Being green and living sustainably really starts from each and every one of us at home and the Rewilding Roadshow project will provide the basic knowledge for us to achieve that. We are excited that Taman Tugu has been chosen to be part of this initiative. Members of the public can get inspired to rewild their homes whilst experiencing and learning more about nature and our ecosystem at Taman Tugu.”

The Rewilding Roadshow exhibit at Taman Tugu is open to the public as long as the park is open, with free plants given on weekends and public holidays (except the upcoming Chinese New Year weekend). The Daihatsu Gran Max Green Van was last seen at the Malaysia Commercial Vehicles Expo (MCVE) 2019 where the Free Tree Society gave away about 450 free plants. The Gran Max Green Van is customised with a retractable canopy, roof rack, television, daytime running lights, bull bar, side body molding, side mirror cover, sun visors, scuff plates and 15″ alloy rims. Despite its compact dimensions, the interior is fitted with various compartments to store potted plants and gardening implements. The van’s small footprint allows it to manouevre narrow roads and be parked in tight spaces.
