Perodua Axia opens for bookings
Perodua’s order books for its much-anticipated all-new model opens tomorrow at 180 showrooms nationwide, with four variants available for booking starting from RM24,900 in Peninsula Malaysia.
As speculated over online circles in recent weeks, the new model will be known as the Axia, pronounced ‘a-zee-a’. The name is derived from the word Asia, with the letter ‘S’ substituted by ‘X’, denoting the Roman numeral designation for 10, a nod to the fact that this is set to be the tenth model in Perodua’s history.
It will be the first model to roll out from Perodua’s new plant built adjacent to its existing facility in Rawang, Selangor. Key features of the new plant include a water-based paint formula, which is less abrasive compared with the solvent based paints it currently uses. The high level of automation also improves quality while at the same time reduces cost.
Detailed specifics of the Axia are still kept under wraps, although Perodua President and CEO Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh, through a statement issued by the company, has highlighted four key USPs that define the new model namely environmental friendliness, spaciousness, easy driving, and low overall cost of ownership.
The claim of spaciousness, naturally in the context of a compact vehicle, of course, is supported by quoted luggage space of 260 litres, whilst economical cost of ownership comes in the form of fuel economy potential of 21.6 km/l, making it Perodua’s most fuel efficient car ever, and qualifying it as an energy efficient vehicle (EEV).
Four variants of the Axia are revealed to be Standard E, Standard G, Special Edition, and Advance. It also comes with a 5-year warranty – another first for Perodua. Members of the Malaysian public are invited to enquire more details on the Axia at Perodua showrooms natiowide; bookings are accepted at fees of RM250 to RM300 depending on variant.
