2014 I+ 1,000km Red Bull Female Rookies search shortlist Top 10 candidates
The Red Bull Rookies female driver talent search programme continues this year with identities of the top ten candidates unveiled ahead of the final selection that will see three drivers selected to represent the team at this year’s Sepang 1,000km Endurance Race in December. The lengthy search process began last December with 38 female racing enthusiasts recruited initially through road shows held in Penang and Klang Valley.
This year’s top ten participants consist of some pretty high-caliber individuals, namely TV host Renai Mattu, movie actresses Putri Mardiana binti Zainal Abidin and Dayangku Faratiwan Adnil binti Awg Kusairi, and Air Asia pilot Illyaquila Fateen Ismail. They are joined in the shortlist by Chiam Carin, Geraldine Darlene Read, Wong Li See, Yeong Su Leng, Christyn Chew Li Ling, and Tan Chiew Hong.
The ten ladies selected on the basis of their performance in a defensive driving course conducted by Kenvin Low and his team of driving instructors from Asia Advanced Driving Academy (AADA) recently. The course’s curriculum included skid control, emergency braking, and ability to control the car in unexpected driving situations. They were also tested on their interpersonal skills to ensure that they have the right set of communication skills to function effectively in a racing team.
Next stage of the programme will see the ten finalists progressing to the second level of AADA’s driving curriculum, namely its Advanced Driving Course. After a track elimination exercise, three out of the ten finalists will ultimately be selected to represent the Red Bull Rookies team at the Sepang 1,000km.
Red Bull Rookies programme was initiated in 2008 based on the Red Bull Female Driver Search 2007. In 2009, the Red Bull Female Driver Search conducted road shows on a nationwide scale, leading to official formation as well as participation of the Red Bull Rookies Team at the inaugural Sepang 1000KM race.
