Perodua funding for vendor and dealer development

Perodua’s network of vendors and dealers will receive a timely cash injection ahead of the company’s new model launch scheduled this year. The company yesterday announced a partnership with the Malaysian Automotive Institute (MAI), that sees the latter helping out with the dispersion of a RM260 million fund to its vendors and dealers.

MAI’s role in the partnership will be to assist in evaluation of the various business proposals requesting backing from the pool of funds and determine the recipient’s worthiness. The funds will be allocated over a period of five years; its objective being to help vendors improve their operational efficiency by investing in better technology and processes. MAI itself will also be allocated funds from Perodua to help concurrently support vendor development.

The fund’s immediate objective will be to support vendors inn preparation for Perodua’s new model launch scheduled to happen this year. According to terms of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between Perodua and MAI yesterday, vendor development support activity will encompass ensuring targets of cost, quality, and productivity are being met; development of vendor technology; and providing upfront payment for tooling to ease the vendors’ cash flow.

For dealer development, activities that can seek support from the fund include personnel training, promotional campaigns, and purchase of service equipment. To be eligible for the programme, a dealer needs to meet certain pre-determined criteria, and for those who qualify, Perodua, with the recommendation of MAI will reimburse the expenses paid on items mentioned.
