Ford’s strong run of growth in recent years continues into 2014, with the first month of the year yielding sales of 1,122 units for the Blue Oval, rising 19% from the previous month.

“These are certainly exciting times for Ford in Malaysia. Over the past few years, we have introduced a series of segment-leading vehicles and Malaysian consumers have responded with great enthusiasm,” said David Westerman, managing director, Malaysia and Asia Pacific Emerging Markets, Ford Motor Company.

Leading the way for Ford is the Ranger, which commands more than half of the company’s total sales at 626 units, up 6% from December’s volume. The new Fiesta, refreshed with a facelifted version last September, follows next with 282 units, and the Focus with 125 units. Demand for the Kuga has picked up as well, with a 64% increase from the previous month, although specific numbers were not disclosed.

For 2014, Ford will focus growth in the B-segment with new additions to the Fiesta family and the Fiesta-based EcoSport SUV all lined-up for launch. The current Fiesta-based EcoSport SUV all lined-up for launch. The current Fiesta 1.5 will soon be joined by the 1.0-litre EcoBoost variant, and the second half of the year will witness the arrival of the Fiesta ST and EcoSport. The locally-assembled Ford Transit will launch next month, marking Ford’s return to the commercial vehicle segment in the country.

In line with its growing line-up and volume, Ford is accordingly expanding its network of sales and service centres. Ford plans to further expand its dealership network to 50 locations and launch eight Quick Lane facilities by year-end. Ford Quick Lane service centres are dedicated service operations equipped to handle routine vehicle maintenance and minor-repair needs quickly – including oil and filter changes, brake systems, tyres, minor exhaust systems rectifications, tune-ups and alignments.
