Results: Autoworld Car of the Year Awards 2013
The Volkswagen Golf GTI emerged as the biggest winner in the Autoworld Car of the Year Awards 2013, results of which were just announced in the award presentation ceremony held at the Tropicana Golf & Country Club earlier this evening.
Competing in a pool of 32 nominees, the Golf GTI was named Best Premium Coupe / Performance Car before making an unprecedented triple sweep of the Judges Choice, Members’ Choice, and Overall Car of the Year Awards at the climax of proceedings. The GTI’s regular Golf sibling, the 1.4 TSI completed Volkswagen Group Malaysia’s trophy cabinet by bagging the Best Compact Passenger Car award.
Another car with more than one trophy to boast about is the Honda CR-Z, which was named Best Alternative Energy Vehicle and Best Coupe / Performance Car. Meanwhile, the Accord, CR-V, and Jazz were named Best Mid-Sized Passenger Car, Best SUV / Crossover, and Best Value for Money Passenger Car respectively, making Honda the biggest-winning marque of this year’s awards.
UMW Toyota Motor, meanwhile, had three awards to take home with the Toyota Vios winning the day’s first award of Best Sub-Compact Passenger Car followed by a double-act from Lexus winning Best Premium Compact Passenger Car and Best Premium Mid-Sized Passenger Car by the IS 250 and ES 250 respectively.
