Next week on 14 to 18 March 2011, Proton will be holding a five-day mega event at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium to showcase its advancements, achievements, innovations, and success in its years of existence. Spread over a 35,000m2 at the stadium’s outdoor parking lot, the event will accommodate a technology exhibition, sales and promotion area, and a mini motorsports demo circuit.

Star attraction of the show, however, will undoubtedly be teasers of the new P3-21A sedan. A soft launch will be held at the event, where tentative pricing and model line-up will be made known. The car itself will not be displayed in its complete form, but there will be an empty chassis which will gradually be filled with parts over the days as the exhibition progresses. Some readers may recall a similar exercise with the Saga BLM held at The Curve before the model’s launch.

“Over the five-day period, people will be able to watch teasers of parts of the car being put together in front of their very eyes. This will give the general public a much greater insight of how we work, and they will better understand the processes a car goes through before it is ready,” said Proton’s Group Managing Director Dato’ Sri Haji Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir.

“This event promises to be both exciting and enlightening, and is a way for us to bring the brand closer to the people – to give Malaysians the chance to interact and experience the Proton brand in a new and unique way as we push forward with efforts to build the brand globally,” he added.

Those considering the purchase of a Proton or Lotus car will have added motivation to attend the event. Bookings for the new P3-21A will commence, and those looking at other models will be offered what Proton promised to be ‘great deals’. Representatives of finance companies and used car dealers will be present to help quick processing of loans and trade-in offers.

Members of Proton’s R&D team will be conducting an engineering and technological showcase demonstrating how various technologies are used in vehicle development. The engineers will be performing a ‘strip show’ (no, not that type, get your mind out of the gutter) in which they will strip down and reassemble an engine in 10 minutes. Visitors can also experiment with a car configurator to design the cars of their dreams.

Followers of Proton’s motorsports exploits will get a chance to witness Alister McRae doing demo runs of the Satria Neo S2000 rally car, and he will be joined by local drift king Tengku Djan Ley of Proton R3 and Faidzil Alang. Lotus Cars Malaysia and Proton R3 will be performing stunt driving demonstrations to showcase the ride and handling prowess of Proton and Lotus cars. The Lotus F1 car itself, by virtue of being around town for the upcoming Malaysian GP will also be making an appearance. The serious enthusiasts can also get into the action themselves in an auto cross and time attack challenge.

Visitors are advised to register their presence at the exhibition by SMS, which would thus qualify them for the ‘SMS and Win’ contest, which includes three units of the Proton Savvy as grand prizes, tickets to the Malaysian F1 GP, Proton merchandise, vouchers, and seats at a Lotus track day experience. Folks who purchase merchandise can participate in the ‘Buy and Win’ contest which offers two tickets to participate in I-Race Day – a programme organized by the Lotus F1 team which gives participants a once in a lifetime chance to drive an actual F1 car.

The Power of 1 will run from 14 to 18 March 2012. Doors open daily from 10am to 10pm. Admission is free.
