Fresh grads complete practical training at Perodua
In what was an extremely eventful day at Perodua’s headquarters in Sg Choh, Rawang, as, among other activities, 20 fresh graduates from Universiti Malaysia Perlis received their certificates having completed a 6-month stint of industry training at Perodua and three of its vendors.
“The Digital Engineering and Prototyping (DEP) programme, held in collaboration with the Malaysia Automotive Institute, not only provides the graduates with the relevant skills and experience but also the culture of design required by the industry,” Perodua Managing Director Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh said.
Like the up-coming Perodua Eco Challenge, the DEP is another industry-university collaboration that Perodua is involved in. From the crop of 20 students in this year’s programme, 12 went into Perodua’s own R&D Department, while the rest were divided amongst three of its vendors – Sipro Plastic Industries Sdn Bhd, Ingress Technologies Sdn Bhd and Sapura Industrial Bhd.
Trainees of under the programme were given the opportunity to immerse themselves in the latest equipment and machinery used by Perodua and its vendors in their design and manufacturing processes. They were given extensive exposure to the design software Catia V5, which is one version before the software’s latest iteration. According to En Mohamad Madani Sahari, CEO of Malaysia Automotive Institute, Catia is the most widely used design software in our part of the world for automotive design.
Experienced personnel from the respective companies also took time to conduct classes for the youngsters. Allowances were paid to the trainees, who also received accommodation near Perodua’s establishment at Sg Choh. Having completed their training, the trainees are now offered temporary 12-month positions a designers in Perodua.
“Each year, Perodua offers opportunities to more than 220 graduates trained in various fields in institutions of higher learning, to undertake their internship and practical training for about 3 to 6 months with us,” Aminar added.
After presenting the trainees their certs, Perodua also took the opportunity to present a unit of the Alza MPV to Pusat Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti Sungai Choh, a home for special children located near Perodua’s headquarters. The vehicle will cater for the children’s daily transportation needs.
Also unveiled in the same function was Perodua’s official foray into the social network scene – its official Facebook page dubbed MYPerodua with the catchphrase “Lagi Best”.
