Volkswagen Polo 1.2 TSI open for booking and test drive
Volkswagen is amassing itself for a three-pronged assault on our market with new variants of the Polo, Golf and Scirocco slated for unveiling in the upcoming months. The Golf 1.4 TSI has already hit the streets and thoroughly impressed us when we had the test car.
Today, order taking will begin for the Polo 1.2 TSI available for viewing and test drive at all Volkswagen showrooms nationwide. Advertisements will show a price tag of RM108,888, but after you factor in road tax and registration, the on-the-road price excluding insurance comes to RM109,593. Insurance premium would set you back an estimated RM3,000.
Despite wearing a TSI moniker like the Golf 1.4, the Polo 1.2 only has a turbocharger to aid its breathing. Yet, if you bear in mind that the engine manages to squeeze out 104hp and 175Nm out of a mere 1,197cc of displacement, that’s pretty healthy figures. It is also worth noting that you have the engine’s maximum torque at your command anywhere from 1,550 to 4,100rpm.
The same 7-speed dry-clutch DSG from the Golf 1.4 sends the engine’s power to the front wheels, and VW claims 5.3 litres/100km of fuel consumption and 124 g/km of CO2 emissions for the green figures. Like the Golf, VW is also backing the Polo up with a five-year unlimited mileage warranty for the customer’s peace of mind.
