Kuala Lumpur, 19 December 2007 – Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd (ETCM) launched the all-new Nissan Grand Livina to the media at the Heritage Mansion in Kuala Lumpur’s Asian Heritage Row this afternoon.

The Grand Livina is a mid-sized 7-seater MPV based on the Latio platform, and employs the same engines and drive trains from the Latio. Designed in the Nissan Technical Centre at Atsugi Japan, the Livina was introduced very successfully in China last year. This year, the Grand Livina has been launched in Indonesia, Taiwan and South Africa. In Indonesia, the Grand Livina currently is the best-selling Nissan model with record sales of 12,500 units by the end of November after its debut in April 2007.

Built to drive and handle like a car, the Grand Livina offers car-like comforts in contrast to other van-based MPV’s, hence its tagline “Drives like a Sedan, Fits like a MPV’. Targeted at people who seek an active and modern lifestyle, the name LIVINA is coined from the words “LIFE & LIVING’ to signify Active and Lively.

The Grand Livina is built on a monocoque body, and is assembled at Tan Chong’s new plant at Serendah using the Nissan Production Way (NPW). A monocoque body also allows the Livina to keep its weight down to 1256 kg to maintain good fuel economy.

Engines come is 1.6 litre and 1.8 litre sizes, and the 1.8 litre model is equipped with Nissan’s variable valve timing mechanism, CVTC. The Grand Livina 1.8 litre is reported to deliver excellent fuel economy of 6.5 litres per 100 kilometres.

Speaking at the unveiling, Dato Dr Ang Bon Beng, Executive Director of Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd said, “Today, we are very excited to introduce the first non-national CKD medium-size MPV in the 1.6 litre & 1.8 litre segments. We aim to capture 15 % of the total MPV market with the Grand Livina. Grand Livina provides sedan-intenders an alternative choice for a high quality and modern design with spacious and flexible seating.”

The Grand Livina will be offered in three variants in Malaysia, with a choice of two engine specifications; a 1.6 litre engine with either manual or automatic transmission, and a 1.8 litre engine with automatic transmission only.
