SEPANG : It has been almost a year after Tribe Toyota, the official Toyota vehicle owners community was launched in September 2006. There has been many activities held for its members, such as Splash Bash at Sunway Lagoon, Tribe Toyota : Flood Assist in Johor and last May was Amazing Trails 2007, Kota Kinabalu. These activities were organised as part of the Tribe Toyota community’s aim to create a Tribe Toyota lifestyle; an active lifestyle that a Toyota owners can enjoy with their family members and friends.

The Tribe Toyota Driving Dynamics event was held on 30th June 2007 at the Paddock Suite, Sepang International Circuit. This was the first time a defensive driving course was organised by UMW Toyota Motor for its Tribe Toyota members. A total of 60 participants gathered early Saturday morning at the Paddock Suite for the whole day event, to learn how to be better drivers.

The course was specially organised to educate members to be more confident and responsible drivers on the street. UMW Toyota Motor has always been a strong advocate on the issue of Road Safety. As children are actively educated on the importance of road safety, it was also important to educate the current drivers, our Tribe Toyota members on the same matter. This course was fitting in view of the rise of accident cases involving deaths even though most new vehicles nowadays are equipped with many active and passive safety features.

UMW Toyota Motor provided an array of Toyota vehicles for participants to be able to get a feel of the different Toyota models. Whilst having fun, participants in this course were taught some basic, yet serious driving techniques such as steering control, emergency braking, wet braking & lane change, and also under steer & over steer. Throughout the event, participants were able to test various simulated situations under a controlled environment to give them a chance to put the theory session to the test.

Through the various exercises, participants got a taste of some of the safety features available in Toyota vehicles. An example was the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS); where a happy participant commented, “The ABS experience was something new, and it’s a good thing that they let us try different Toyota models.”

At the end of the day, everything learnt was put to the test. Participants were given a chance to utilise their newly learned skills in a Slalom competition at the end of which 6 lucky teams walked away with some great Toyota F1 merchandise.
