More Horses Come with the New Porsche Cayenne
Kuala Lumpur, 9 March 2007 – The new Porsche Cayenne was introduced to the media and guests tonight with a very clear message – it certainly comes with more horses, in more ways than one. The launch gambit, which explains why Auto Eurokars Sdn Bhd, the local franchise holders and importers of the Porsche brand in Malaysia, chose to hold it at the Equestrian club, was one in which the media and invited guests were given a spectacular display of high speed riding by a group of riders astride their magnificent steeds, leading in three equally, if not more magnificent Porsche Cayennes to the launch area.
Top of the range is the Cayenne Turbo, with 4.8 litres of engine displacement, not one, but two turbochargers, with an output of 500 horses and 700Nm of torque. It comes with a six-speed Tiptronic transmission, air suspension, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), an enhanced Porsche Stability Management system (PSM), and bi-Xenon lights.
Brakes are massive 368mm ventilated discs at the front, with 6-piston calipers, and 358mm ventilated discs at the rear with 4-piston calipers, and are larger than some racecar brakes that I have seen. Wheels are 18-inch alloys.
The interior upholstery is full leather, and the front seats have a 12-way electrical adjustment, while the rear seats split and fold 60:40. The steering wheel features electric controls for reach and height. The tailgate also has electric closing, a very convenient feature. One of these beauties will set you back RM1.1 million, if you are not one of those fortunates who do not have to pay import duties.
Next on the list is the Cayenne S, which means you get the 4.8 litre engine without the turbochargers. Output is 385 horsepower, while torque is 500Nm. The Cayenne S comes with the option of a 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox. The permanent all-wheel drive is managed by a proprietary Porsche Traction Management (PTM) system with torque distribution of 38% front, and 62% rear. The Cayenne S is hung on steel spring suspension, the front being of strut design, while the rear is a multi-link design.
The brakes come with 6-piston calipers and 4-piston calipers at the rear, but are slightly smaller, with 350mm discs in the front, and 330mm discs at the rear. Wheels are 18-inch too.
Seats are partial leather, with interior trims in metallic-look finish. The front seats are 12-way electrically controlled, but the steering adjustments are manual.
For the Malaysian market, air suspension, Bi-Xenon lights, Pak Assist, Tiptronic, and many other options are available at time of order, at additional cost. Retail price with standard accessories is RM755k for the manual version, and RM765k for the automatic.
At the entry level, the Cayenne comes with a 6-cylinder, 3.6 litre engine with 290 horsepower and 385 Nm of torque. You can have a choice of the standard 6-speed manual or the 6-speed Tiptronic auto. Drive to the all-wheel drive system is controlled by the Porsche Traction Management System (PTM), with an electronically controlled centre differential.
The suspension system is similar to that of the Cayenne S, but air suspension is an optional extra. It comes with PSM, and 17-inch wheels.
The brakes are correspondingly smaller, with 330mm discs and 4-piston calipers fitted on both the front and rear.
Interior upholstery of the Cayenne is similar to that of the Cayenne S, and the same goes for the 12-way electrically adjustable front seats, and the manually adjustable steering wheel.
Again, the usual options of air suspension, Bi-Xenon lights, etc are available for the Malaysian market. Retail price is RM640k for the manual, and RM650k for the automatic.
