KKS Malaysian Open Karting Championships 2005, Round 3 Results
Round 3 of the KKS Malaysian Open Karting Championship 2005 was run off without any hitches at the Speedzone Elite Kart Circuit on 5th June 2005. There were 41 entries with entries from Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and India.
Formula Cadet
This class is for competitors between the ages of 8 and 12 and they run “Box Stock” Comer W85 engines with control tyres. This made interesting racing as all the competitors were very closely matched. There were 8 competitors in this class and after two heats the Final was won by Andrew Tang from Singapore.
1st Andrew Tang (Singapore)
2nd Bryan Homi Mehta (Malaysia)
3rd Mitchell Gilbert (Malaysia)
Formula Junior
The Junior Class is for drivers from the age of 12 to 16 and the karts are powered by 100 c.c. piston port engines. This was quite a small field of 4 as a number of karters had sent their equipment to the Philippines for an event the following week. In this class Ooi Fei Hoong from Penang was very consistent and won the Final easily from Vittorio Fabregas.
1st Ooi Fei Hoong (Malaysia)
2nd Vittorio Salvador Fabregas (Malaysia)
3rd Muhamad Adrien Maseri (Malaysia)
Formula 125 Open
This class had the biggest field with 18 entries and comprised of karts running 125 c.c. engines of any make and open modifications. On the 0.9 kilometer track these karts were lapping in around 47 seconds, which was 3 seconds faster than the Formula Juniors.
1st Victor Cheong (Malaysia)
2nd Colin Ho Kai Yue (Malaysia)
3rd James Baudzus (Singapore)
Formula V
This class is similar to the Formula 125 except that competitors have to be over the age of 40 and it drew a field of 9, which was down from the usual of about 15. John King has been dominating this class for some time and once again he showed that his age was not a handicap. Also for the second time we had Adi Haslam Abdullah who was competing in a kart with hand controls. Adi held his 3rd position for almost the whole of the Final until bumped into 4th place. A very credible effort for one who normally moves around in a wheel chair!
1st John King (Malaysia)
2nd Bernd Baunack (Malaysia)
3rd Mohammad Razif Sharif (Malaysia)
