The Serpent

Mitsuoka is well known for its unique designs and so anything extraordinary is not a real surprise. At the last Tokyo Motorshow, the company chose to commemorate its entry as an exhibitor for the first time with a supercar concept which would underline its distinctive design philosophy.

Known as ‘Orochi’ (the name of a python in Japanese legend), the concept car reflects the python’s character of enormity, dubiousness, virulence and fear. The designers gave it a reptilian look with the lighting units having a design motif of ‘piercing eyes’. The air intake at the front bumper also looks like the jaw of a python.

“The concept car has a simple and strong spirit to create presence,” explained M. Aoki, the designer of the Orochi. “It has a wide and low shape with an overall length of 4580 mm, overall width of 2050 mm and just 1140 mm tall.”

Mr Aoki said that the Orochi is a mock-up and the company has not decided whether to make any units for sale. However, if it is produced, it may have a V6 or V8 engine and cost around 6 million yen (RM180,000). A hybrid powerplant may also be possible.
