Honda CR-V 6th Generation Launched In Malaysia; 4 Variants From RM160k

Honda Malaysia has launched the 6th generation of the popular Honda CR-V SUV. The “Comfortable Runabout Vehicle” is available in 4 variants i.e. CR-V S (RM159,900), CR-V E (RM169,900), CR-V V (RM181,900) and the top-of-the-range CR-V e:HEV RS which officially is expecting to get a price tag in early 2024. 

The S, E, and V variants are all powered by a 1.5L turbocharged VTEC engine while the hybrid RS has a 2.0L i-VTEC Atkinson cycle engine paired with a motor and e-CVT. The 1.5L turbo engine meanwhile is paired with a regular CVT (continuously variable transmission) and offers 193 PS (190 hp) @ 6,000 rpm and 243 Nm @ 1,700 – 5,000 rpm. In comparison, the new generation 2.0L e:HEV hybrid powertrain produces up to 184 PS (181 hp) and 335 Nm of torque.

The redesigned CR-V is longer and wider than its predecessor, measuring 4,691 mm (long) x 1,866 mm (wide) x 1,681 mm (tall), on a wheelbase of 2,700 mm which is 40 mm longer than the previous generation. According to the spec sheet, the V variant is 10 mm taller (1,691 mm) and that is most likely due to the all-wheel-drive configuration – the only variant to have it. Its ground clearance is also higher at 208 mm compared to 198 mm for the others. All variants except the entry level CR-V S run on 18″ alloy wheels (the S gets 17″ alloys). The boot capacity is 589 litres with the rear seats up and increases to 1,072 litres when the seats are laid flat.

Across the board, they all have electric power steering, electric parking brake, ventilated front brake discs and solid rear discs, front MacPherson struts and multi-link rear suspension, and a fuel tank volume of 57 litres.

Other standard offerings across the variants are auto LED headlights, front LED sequential turn signals, body coloured door handles, remote engine start, walk away auto lock, smart entry with push button start, ECON button, dual auto air conditioning, rear air conditioning, sliding 2nd row seat, powered retractable door mirrors, 2 rear USB ports, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You will also find in all 4 variants dual front airbags, side airbags, side curtain airbags, knee airbags, rear seat reminder, Vehicle Stability Assist, Agile Handle Assist, Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Auto Brake Hold, Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent Control, Emergency Stop Signal, 4 reverse sensors, and multi-angle reverse camera. Further, the standard ADAS features for all variants are Forward Collision Warning, Collision Mitigation Braking System, Lane Keep Assist System, Lane Departure Warning, Road Departure Mitigation, Adaptive Cruise Control, Low Speed Follow, Auto High Beam, Lead Car Departure Notification System, Driver Attention Monitor. There are also the Active Noise Control and Hona CONNECT telematics given as standard.

The Honda CR-V comes in a choice of 5 colours i.e. Canyon River Blue Metallic, Platinum White Pearl, Lunar  Silver Metallic, Meteoroid Gray Metallic, and Ignite Red Metallic.

Furthermore, this year is Honda’s commemorating its 75th Anniversary which coincides with Honda Malaysia’s celebration of 20 years of Completely Knocked Down (CKD) CR-V production; this model is the first to be assembled in its Melaka plant. In conjunction with the celebration of these milestones, the Honda CR-V S Variant will come at a promotional price of RM157,900 (on the road without insurance; price subject to change without prior notice). Only 750 units of this will be on sale on a first-come, first served basis.
