Volvo EC40 Is The New Name; Extended Range & New Colour Now Available In Malaysia

Volvo Car Malaysia has officially rebranded its popular all-electric crossover SUV. Formerly known as the Volvo C40 Recharge, the model year 2025 vehicle will now be known as the Volvo EC40, boasting an extended driving range of 554 km* and a new Cloud Blue exterior colour option.

This renaming initiative aligns with Volvo’s global strategy to streamline model naming conventions and enhance transparency for customers. The EC40 represents a crucial step in Volvo’s commitment to electrification in Malaysia.

Despite the name change, the Volvo EC40 retains its key features and attractive after-sales packages, including:

  • High-Capacity Battery: An 82 kWh battery pack supporting DC fast charging up to 200 kW, allowing a 10-80% charge in just 28 minutes**.

  • Advanced Pixel Headlights: Intelligent pixel headlights equipped with sensors automatically adjust brightness for optimal visibility.

  • Complimentary Digital Services: 5 years of complimentary access to Google Assistant, Google Maps, Google Play Store, and remote functionalities via the Volvo Cars App.

  • Comprehensive Service Plan: A 5-year complimentary Volvo Service Plan (VSP), covering scheduled maintenance at authorised Volvo service centres.

Beyond the extended range, the most significant visual update is the introduction of Cloud Blue, a fresh and appealing exterior colour option joining the existing palette of Onyx Black, Crystal White, Silver Dawn, and Sage Green.

Performance remains strong, particularly with the twin-motor, all-wheel-drive (AWD) configuration. This model also features a 2nd-generation, in-house developed permanent magnet rear electric motor, delivering a maximum output of 300 kW for a dynamic and responsive driving experience. Volvo C40 Recharge Pure Electric_Infotainment Touchscreen_Google_Android Auto_Apple CarPlay

“In introducing the renamed Volvo EC40, we are not just upgrading our current electric SUV line-up, but we are also paving the way for an expansive lineup later this year. Whether our customers desire the versatility of a spacious 7-seater for family adventures or the agility of a compact 5-seater for urban journeys, our evolving portfolio is designed to meet every lifestyle and preference,” stated Chris Tan, Sales Director of Volvo Car Malaysia.

The EC40’s launch contributes to Volvo Car Malaysia’s ongoing electrification momentum. Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid models accounted for 83% of the brand’s total retail sales in 2024, a significant increase from 71% the previous year. The company currently offers 3 fully electric models i.e. XC40 Recharge Pure Electric, EX30, and now the EC40. The flagship EX90 is slated to arrive later this year. Volvo_EC40 Sage Green
