Petron Malaysia Builds Safer Communities Through Go-To-Safety Point (GTSP) Programme

Petron Malaysia, a leading oil and gas company, continues to champion community safety through its collaboration with the Polis DiRaja Malaysia / Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). The Go-To-Safety Point (GTSP) Programme, launched in 2013, has seen Petron transform a majority of its service stations into one-stop assistance centres for the communities they serve. According to Shaliza Mohd Sidek, Head of Retail Business at Petron Malaysia, the company’s goal for the past 11 years has been to provide safe havens for the public in times of emergency, acting as a crucial support system until authorities arrive. “At Petron, we believe addressing safety issues is not only the duty of the police but also our shared responsibility as corporate citizens,” said Shaliza. “Together with PDRM, we are here today to recognise service station dealers who help create safer and more secure communities.”

The GTSP programme plays a vital role in the well-being of Malaysians, and its importance is reflected in PDRM’s vision. This year, PDRM commended 41 Petron service station dealers for their exceptional contributions to the GTSP programme in 2023. With over 50 incidents reported, Petron stations provided crucial assistance in cases ranging from road accidents and vehicle fires to suicide attempts. There were also instances where dealers helped victims of robbery by coordinating with police, fire, and ambulance services.Petron Malaysia_Service Station Dealers_Polis DiRaja Malaysia_Commendation Letter_Go-To-Safety Point

Dato’ Azman Bin Hj. Ayob, Deputy Director of Operation Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK), expressed his admiration for Petron’s efforts. “Emergencies can happen anytime, anywhere. The public needs to know that petrol stations are also a safe spot to seek assistance. I’m very impressed with Petron’s dedication to conducting periodic GTSP refresher courses for their dealers in order to keep them updated on the incident handling system. Every year, our team will also be supporting their state-level event with a simulation exercise, during which members of the PDRM explain the steps and early assistance that Petron dealers and staff can apply when handling emergency situations.”

The majority of Petron’s service stations are now easily identifiable with GTSP window decals, signaling them as safe spots for those in distress. Many stations also feature designated “de-stress” corners equipped with first-aid kits, chairs, and blankets to provide comfort while waiting for emergency services. Petron is also renewing its commitment to public awareness, with new posters detailing how and where to seek assistance in case of emergencies.

These posters, featuring Malay proverb-themed GTSP murals created by local artists from Art Battalion, continue to promote the initiative’s cultural significance. The first mural was unveiled at Petron’s Nilai Impian service station in 2022, with more planned as the programme expands.Petron Nilai Impian_Mural_CSR

Petron Malaysia remains committed to its role in fostering safer communities, demonstrating how corporate responsibility can make a real difference in times of need.
