Angka-Tan Motor Sdn Bhd (ATM), the sole distributor of Foton Light Commercial Vehicles (LCV), Foton Auman, and JMC vehicles in Malaysia, has officially launched 3 new trucks, at the Malaysia Commercial Vehicle Expo 2024, which cater to various light commercial applications.
Taking the spotlight among the new offerings is the 2024 Foton eAumark, the first pure-electric light-duty truck to officially retail in Malaysia. The Foton eAumark BJ1045EVJAR3 electric truck has all the qualities that have established the Foton Aumark as a trusted name in the commercial vehicle market. But now, with pure electric propulsion, promising cleaner and more sustainable performance.
A subsidiary of Warisan TC Holdings Bhd, and a member of the Tan Chong Group, ATM supports the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) objectives that are in line with the national agenda to move towards zero emissions by 2050. The launch of the Foton eAumark underscores the Group’s commitment to help reduce the carbon footprint of light commercial vehicles which make up a significant portion of logistics fleets in Malaysia.
Measuring 5,960 mm long, 2,000 mm wide, and 2,210 mm tall, the Foton eAumark boasts a single 3,360 mm wheelbase and a gross vehicle weight (GVW) ranging from 4,250 kg to 6,000 kg. Its powertrain is a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor generating 115 kW (154 hp) and over 900 Nm of torque. Fitted with an 81.14 kWh iron-phosphate battery from CATL, the eAumark can achieve a WLTP-rated range of up to 200 km.
The truck is also engineered to withstand extreme weather conditions, including Malaysia’s tropical climate. The powertrain battery has IP67 certification for water and dust resistance, along with high-temperature resistance (600°C ignition point). Furthermore, it can supply 10kW of power to an ePTO port for attaching external equipment or special structures. The eAumark will come with a complimentary 22 kW AC wallbox charger, allowing for the truck to be charged on-site when off-duty. In addition to the AC charger, owners can leverage on DC charging facilities that are available in the rapidly growing charging network in Malaysia. The eAumark can recharge from 20% to 100% SoC (state-of-charge) in just 1 hour via DC charging.
Features available in the Foton eAumark include Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), LED headlights, a spacious 1,880 mm wide cabin, electric power steering (EPS), knob-type gear selector, and LCD instrument cluster providing vital vehicle information e.g. battery level and range. Furthermore, its energy-efficient air conditioning system enhances the sustainability of the pure electric powertrain.
“The global transport sector is currently defined by its paradigm shift towards e-mobility. There is no reason why this transition should be limited to passenger vehicles, given the larger impact businesses have over our national carbon footprint. ATM has enjoyed a long and industrious working relationship with Foton, and we have utmost trust in their new energy expertise, which is the direct result of over 20 years of R&D experience. We believe the pure-electric Foton eAumark has every potential to redefine the light-duty truck sector in Malaysia while aiding local businesses towards their sustainability objectives in the process” said Tan Keng Meng, Chief Executive officer of Warisan TC Holdings Bhd.
Alongside electric mobility, ATM also acknowledges the necessity of conventionally-powered commercial vehicles in the Malaysian logistics sector. As such, it had also introduced the 2024 Foton Aumark S Euro 4 which continues to carry the established safety, utility, power, efficiency, and reliability of the Aumark S series, but with improved emission output to comply with Euro 4 standards mandated by the Malaysian government.
Available in 4- and 6-wheel configurations, the Foton Aumark S Euro 4 retains its dependable performance with options like the Cummins ISF 2.8L diesel engine coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission by ZF for the 4-wheeler variant, and a larger 3.8L engine with a 6-speed ZF gearbox for the 6-wheeler variant. Both powertrains now meet Euro 4 and B20 biodiesel compatibility requirements for enhanced operational efficiency.
The Aumark is a product of the “Super Truck Global Innovation Alliance”, developed and tested through 1.6 million kilometres of real-world driving across varying surface, weather and altitude conditions. The Foton Aumark has forged a reputation as a highly dependable and popular truck across the globe, with more than 4 million units produced and sold worldwide since 2003.
The Foton eAumark BJ1045EVJAR3 currently has an introductory price of RM238,000, and is backed by a comprehensive factory warranty covering the cabin and chassis for up to 3 years or 100,000 km (whichever comes first). The drive motor, 81.14 kWh battery, and controller are covered by a 5-year (or 200,000 km) warranty.
Prices for the Foton Aumark S BJ1065 Euro 4 4-wheeler start from RM98,400, and RM115,300 for the Aumark S BJ1088 Euro 4 6-Wheeler variant. Both are supported by a 6-year or 300,000 km warranty.
