Isuzu Malaysia Launches Forward FVR Euro 5 Smoother And ELF Euro 4 Trucks
Isuzu Malaysia has launched its Euro 5 compliant version of its Forward medium-duty truck i.e. Isuzu FVR Smoother 4×2 (FVR34UU-SDN). The launch of this truck in response to the implementation of the Euro 4 standard by the government effective 1 April 2024 to improve emissions standards.
In addition to the FVR model, Isuzu Malaysia also introduced the light-duty ELF truck range that complies with the Euro 4 standard for the very same reason. “The introduction of the new Isuzu FVR Euro 5 Smoother AMT and ELF Euro 4 trucks demonstrate our commitment towards the Isuzu Environmental Vision 2050 carbon-neutral strategy roadmap that seeks to maintain our leadership in transportation, minimise environmental impact, contribute to the development of logistics and build a prosperous and sustainable society,” said Shunsuke Okazoe, Chief Executive Officer of Isuzu Malaysia.
“Isuzu’s wide range of products have been highly trusted and appreciated by customers for the ability to deliver outstanding benefits for their logistics businesses,” he added. “This trust has consistently granted Isuzu the accolade of being recognised as the top truck brand in Malaysia for the 10th consecutive year and light-duty truck brand for the 14th consecutive year. This is also a testament that Isuzu understands what our customers need in order to stay competitive and resilient in the midst of adapting in the evolving landscape.”
As the name indicates, the Isuzu FVR Smoother is fitted with the Smoother AMT (automated manual transmission), and joins the range of Isuzu trucks, from light-duty to prime mover, to be fitted with it. The AMT gearbox offers the best of both manual transmission as well as automatic without being too costly.
The Isuzu Smoother AMT is meant to enhance driving efficiency. It features computer control that is assisted by a torque converter hydraulics system which operates the clutch and throttle to match revs for gear changes. This results in smoother gear shifts, especially in frequent stop-start situations thereby improving efficiency, and also reduces driver fatigue.
The Isuzu FVR Smoother is powered by a 6HK1-TCN 6-cylinder 7.8L engine with 240 PS (237 hp), and has a 19-tonne GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight) capacity to allow owners to maximise load and optimise cost. Its front axle capacity is rated at 7,500 kg while the rear axle is 13,000 kg. Additionally, its brakes feature an outboard drum design which eases maintenance as there is no need to remove the hub when changing the brake lining.
Both the Isuzu Forward (FVR) and ELF series are built with the Isuzu Safety Plus platform. The FVR Smoother comes with anti-lock braking system (ABS), driver airbag, and Hill Start Aid to prevent roll-back on a slope. Meanwhile, the ELF has ABS, driver airbag, electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), and anti-slip regulator (ASR).
Other features for the FVR include a cabin tilt warning, LED headlights, USB port, central locking with remote keyless entry and an immobiliser.
Okazoe-san also commented that Isuzu customers will benefit from the improved emissions standards. With the Euro 4 and Euro 5 compliant engines, these Isuzu trucks are more efficient while emitting less particulates and other gases. Furthermore, like the Euro 4 trucks, the FVR Euro 5 trucks run with a diesel oxidation catalyst that is cost-efficient and does not require AdBlue.
From 11 to 29 March, the company will be organising the Isuzu Smoother Drive across Isuzu dealerships in Malaysia. This nationwide roadshow will showcase the reliability and efficiency of its trucks over long distances, and will also act as a corporate social responsibility programme to deliver aid and care to the underprivileged and seniors.
