Chery Sub-Brand Jaecoo Will Officially Launch In Malaysia In 2024
Jaecoo, a sub-brand of Chery Automobile, and sister brand to Omoda, has set up shop in Malaysia and plans to officially launch its first product in 2024. The first model to be introduced in Malaysia will be the Jaecoo J7 AWD, given that 2 units of the right-hand-drive version just arrived on our shores for testing.
Beyond road tests, the 2 units of Jaecoo J7 will be shown to potential dealers and investors to establish its retail network, as well as to the public to build brand awareness and drum up public interest in the run-up to its official launch.
Jaecoo is one of Chery’s global brands. Launched in April 2023, it is specifically crafted for the international scene as an urban off-road SUV brand in the premium segment. In 2012, Chery Automobile had formed a joint venture with Jaguar Land Rover in China mainly for the production of the British brand’s vehicles there so it will not be a surprise if Jaecoo learns / takes inspiration from, or uses JLR parts.
The Jaecoo J7 is a 5-seater SUV with a wheelbase of 2,672 mm and physical dimensions of 4,500 mm (length), 1,865 mm (width), and 1,680 mm (height), putting it in the upper end of the B-segment. And unlike the current trend of introducing EVs, the Jaecoo J7 will come with a petrol engine. Under the hood will likely to be a 1.6L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 194 hp and 290 Nm, with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission, and an all-wheel-drive system. The Chery group does also have a 1.5L Kunpeng e+ hybrid turbo engine (154 hp and 220 Nm) powertrain that can provide up to 100 km of electric drive in its arsenal should our market demand for something electrified.
Other notable equipment for our market may possibly include a 14.8″ infotainment touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 10.25″ multi-info display, head-up display, ventilated from seats, wireless phone charging, hands-free powered tailgate, sunroof, rear air vents, as well as a suite of advanced driver assistance systems.
The official Jaecoo Malaysia Facebook page has been officially launched, so you can catch the latest updates and events there. The official website for Malaysia is set to be ready by January 2024. In the meantime, you can find the information on Jaecoo’s global website.
Jaecoo Malaysia has also initiated its dealer recruitment program in preparation for the first model introduction next year. Interested parties can reach out to Ms. Mandy Yip at 013-366 6655 or mandyyip@jaecoo.com.my.
