BMW Group Malaysia Charges Forward With Electrifying Goal

BMW Group Malaysia continues to charge forward with its electrifying goal as it takes the lead in the premium EV segment in Malaysia. Collectively, with its BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad brands, the group sold over 1,600 units of electric vehicles in 8 months this year. In comparison, this achievement surpasses the total of 1,557 units of BMW & MINI EV delivered in 2022.

While this significant milestone reflects BMW Group Malaysia’s unwavering commitment to Sheer Electric Driving Pleasure, it also further cements its status as the leading brand in the premium segment in Malaysia, for the last 3 years.

“At the heart of our vision for an Electric Future lies a profound commitment to electrification that seeks to reshape the future of mobility, where sustainability, luxury and innovation converge. In an era marked by the imperative to transform, we are thrilled to lead the charge in Malaysia’s electrification journey – bolstered by the support of our loyal customers, dealers, and partners alike. This achievement commemorates our lead, not just in the premium EV segment but also the overall EV ecosystem in the country,” said Hans de Visser, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia.

The Forwardism by BMW showcase will highlight its top-of-the-range EV – the BMW i7. Available here in the sole xDrive60 M Sport guise, the i7 offers all the latest BMW tech and premium features. The interior is clothed in BMW Individual Merino leather matched with Fineline black fine-wood and M signature high-gloss metal effect trimmings, as well as Crafted Clarity crystal glass appointments. Other premium features include a 21-speaker Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system, 4-zone climate control, Sky Lounge panoramic glass roof, roller sunblinds, as well as an Executive Lounge at the rear with powered seats equipped with massage function, lumbar support, heating and ventilation, as well as a 31.3″ BMW Theatre Screen (Entertainment Professional package).

The i7 has a dual motor set-up providing 400 kW (536 hp) and 745 Nm, allowing this limousine to do the century sprint in 4.7 seconds. The 101.7 kWh battery offers a driving range of up to 625 km (WLTP) and can be charged from 0% to 100% in 9.5 hours via 11 kW AC charging. DC charging is naturally faster, taking only 34 minutes to go from 10% to 80% state of charge (195 kW CCS2).

To further build up its electrified mobility objective, BMW Group Malaysia recognises the need to address the most pressing concern shared by many potential EV owners in Malaysia i.e. range and charging anxiety. With this in mind, BMW Group Malaysia continues to seek and form sustainable partnerships to improve the infrastructure and ease of use for EV owners. Concurrently, BMW Group Malaysia also announced a strategic partnership with clean energy solutions provider, Gentari, via its wholly-owned subsidiary, Gentari Green Mobility Sdn Bhd. This partnership aims to make EV charging more accessible and convenient for all. Building upon Gentari’s success in establishing widespread EV charging infrastructure nationwide over the past year, the 2 organisations are now bringing Charge Go to life — a trailblazing mobile EV charging service that can provide on-the-go DC fast-charging. There are also plans to use suitable electric vehicles to provide this mobile fast charging service in the future.

De Visser added, “We are thrilled to bring our mobile charging vehicle concept – one that we unveiled earlier this year, to life with Gentari. Our partnerships with key players like them underscore our belief that industry-wide collaboration is the engine driving the transformation towards an Electric Future. We hope to inspire more players in this field to elevate their commitment to electrification, collectively enriching the local EV ecosystem. This collaboration will be made available towards end of 2023.”

“The launch of Charge Go with BMW is another innovative solution that exemplifies Gentari’s customer-centricity. This mobile charging solution is a product of the collective effort amongst local industry players, including SMEs, to strengthen the local EV ecosystem in coming up with our very own and locally designed solution in this space. This solution, the first of many to come from Gentari, aims to bolster range confidence, making the transition to EVs an easy one,” said Shah Yang Razalli, Deputy CEO of Gentari and CEO of Gentari Green Mobility Sdn Bhd.

Furthermore, BMW Group Malaysia is also collaborating with local charging providers, ChargEV, alongside JomCharge & Gentari to offer exclusive unlimited-charging packages for BMW and MINI EV owners in Malaysia.

From 1 October to 31 December 2023, the first 200 registrants of BMW and MINI EV owners can purchase the package for RM2,400 and RM1,800 respectively from any of the aforementioned charging providers. The package provides unlimited charging at all ChargEV or JomCharge & Gentari facilities nationwide for 12 months upon activation. Do note that these packages are only valid for use by the specific EV that was registered during sign-up.

Through BMW Group Malaysia’s strategic partnerships with key local charging solution providers, as well as its network of authorised dealers and partnering venues across the country, the premium automaker has made over 1,000 charging facilities available to EV owners in Malaysia.
